'17 R - Additional maint/proactive items to add while pulling supercharger
A couple days ago I got a red flashing low coolant light only to discover my coolant tank near empty and signs of leaked coolant under the hood. I thankfully caught it in time and refilled the tank with coolant for now. After much research I ordered this euro amp kit (https://euro-amp.com/products/14-23-...44050298667207) which my local dfw jag shop said they'll install for $2k. Last time I had it in to replace the AC system (another $4k down the drain) they found a small leak in the brake vacuum pump that needs to be replaced for $800 along with lower control arm bushings being torn which I plan to hold off on. As a '17 R with 70k miles hoping to get to 150-200k on the car as a DD I was going to have the shop do this scope of work. Is there anything else thats important and a huge cost savings to do while they have the supercharger pulled fixing the cooling system?
Install Euro Amp kit
Replace break vacuum pump
Replace supercharger oil
Change front and rear diff fluid
Replace both belts
Replace transmission fluid
Change oil and filters
Clean injectors
Swap thermostat engine hose to newer JLR OEM version
spark plug replacements
Are these important/easy/beneficial to do at this time?Transfer case fluid replacement
Gearbox fluid drain and replace pan/filter
Transmission fluid
There are additional gaskets, seals and pipes needed to do the crossover pipe service. Check the part numbers in this post against what is provided in the AMP kit. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...e-done-290940/ I would use the factory seals on the WP to oil cooler pipe. I would replace the oil cooler gasket.
While you're there I would replace the PCV valves. Get the "kits" that include the valve covers because they break coming off.
The brake boost vacuum pump is $239 at FCP Euro and takes 5 minutes to replace. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/jag...burg-701188220 Yes, it's easier to do during an oil change while the oil is out. No, the seal kit from RKX doesn't work. The pumps warp so only replacing the pump repairs the oil leak.
Yes, replace the supercharger oil.
Yes, change the diff fluid. Look for a leak in the rear pinion seal, very common. If the diff fluid is under pressure when you drop the fluid then the vent is clogged. That's a whole 'nother thing.
Obviously replace both belts but also the tensioners.
Transmission fluid. According to JLR it's not needed. According to ZF it is needed. Changing it is very specific in how to do it properly. If your independent wrench is also BMW guy then you should be good but if this service is done wrong, that's a way bad thing.
Oil change. I really hope you've been doing this yourself at a much smaller interval than what JLR calls for. A 6 minute job.
Clean injectors. I would not pull the injectors. Chances are too good that one or two get stuck and or break and then you have to remove the heads. Is your independent wrench a JLR guy? Best thing you can do for the injectors is ALWAYS use a top tier premium fuel like Exxon/Mobile. There are some "cleaners" that supposedly can work. Search for those posts here.
Yes, as much as possible, replace all old hoses with factory hoses..
Yes, change the spark plugs.
Yes, do the transfer case oil. Check TheRock88's post on that. You don't want the wrench trying to remove the transmission support just to get at the fill plug.
I would do the front suspension bits and get a alignment.
Just an afterthought. Some of this would have been covered for free under the free maintenance plan JLR had. At least it was for my 2016. Transfer case and plugs were done at the dealership for free.
Go through my old video series so you don't miss anything, I have a F-type/XF/and a X-type, put Redline Water water in the cooling system, to protect from electrolysis and lubricate the water pump
One more thing, replace the supercharger coupler (aka torsion isolator).
I just found a new Jag mechanic who said that a few days back. He reckoned it is critical to replace it any time the supercharger is off as it is a nylon part (or something, I'm not very mechanically inclined)
Are the O-rings in the EuroAmp kit JLR O-rings? I couldn't tell from their site. My mechanic used another brand of alloy pipes (not EuroAmp, not JLR) but he said he always uses only JLR O-rings. FYI.
