Default what engine coolant do you recommend?

okay, since my other thread on the water pump has failed to attract any attention on this question, maybe some of you (and hopefully some of you techs) will read this an chime in?

What's the theory on using the made-of-gold Jaguar Brand coolant? Can I use a less expemsive made-for-aluminum-engines coolant?

I know some here will jump on me for saying this but I'm using Prestone Extended Life w/Dexcool 50/50 in my 2003. I've seen no problems with it yet. I made the change last year so it's been in all winter. I got it at Walmart for I think $11 a gallon. I change it twice to try and get as much of the original stuff out of the system. I'm going to drain it again as soon as it gets warm again because I've got a small leak I nned to fix, where I made my own radiator drain extension to replace the factory plug. But the leak isn't caused by the Prestone, I just didn't get a good enough seal on my drain line rig.

What do you mean failed to get ANY attention? I posted there,
here it is cut and pasted:

I use BMW coolant. It is not expensive, and is good for alloy engines.
I dont like trying to decipher the parts store endless varities. There is way too much sales and marketing there. No chance to make a good decision.

I also have used Prestone - they guarantee that their fluid is compatable with all makes, all models and some fluid they sell is comapatble with any kind of fluid. Check their website. I do recommend doing a complete flush though...

Sorry, Jimmy, I didn't mean "NO RESPONSE", I meant that I failed to ignite the raucus arguments that usually ensue when this subject comes up... (or at least, they have in the past)
It looks like I'm okay with using Prestone, or the BMW stuff you're describing.
thnaks all.
