Default 2 tow hooks?

Noticed I have 2 hooks. A larger one sitting in the designated cradle by the battery, and there is a smaller shorter one just sitting there laying on top of that loose. Anyone else have that with theirs? This is a 2024 R.

Struck me weird.

If they haven’t changed, the smaller black one is for the rear, and is used only for initial transport of the car, presumably tieing it down to the ship. The dealer is supposed to discard this, as the rear tow hook cannot be used for vehicle recovery - the threaded socket for the hook isn’t solid enough.

The bigger silver one is the real one for the front.

Many new owners ask this question.

There were two separate hooks, one for towing in the front and I think the other one was utilized for ship transport with most dealers discarding them during delivery prep.

Okay then, thanks guys. Definitely was not aware of this. I thought front and back was different, but I didn’t want to bother open the doors to see. So you’re saying the big one will work for the front and back.

interestingly enough, my larger one is not silver. It’s black. Must be multiple part numbers or something.

No, the big one should fit only in the front. I believe they’re different threads so you can’t install the front hook you’re supposed to have in the rear socket you shouldn’t use.

It’s trivial to pop the front tow hook cover off, you should be sure which one fits. Hint: they’re reverse threaded. (I use a tow hook front license plate holder for annual inspections, as I don’t normally run with a front plate, which is why I’m familiar with it.)

Oh geez, appreciate the clarification…Read too fast above. Thanks man…

Note to self, using the back one rips back of car off…Got it ;-0
