F-Type R AWD Transfer Case Fluid Change DIY
Hi Group...
Since I just finished the Transmission Fluid and Transfer Case Fluid Service, and it was still fresh in my mind, I went ahead and put the process in my DIY Template/Format. I was able to re-use many steps from the transmission service, so that was helpful.
I used a couple of tips and pictures from Rondog on this Forum - So Thanks Rondog!
The process can be performed in at least two different approaches, one removing the cross member for access and one without. Each has pros and cons, so pick what works best for you...I tried to document both approaches and referenced steps by using an A or B through the document.
So, if anyone is looking to DIY your Transfer Case Fluid Service, I hope this will help you out. Always check your specific model and specs, and make sure you use the correct parts for YOUR vehicle. Note you only need a 1 Liter bottle of fluid for this.
Enjoy the DIY, and good luck if you try it.

You forgot option 3: transmission fluid change party at your house, everyone’s invited!
Thanks for this. Hoping to build a barn (with lift) next year so I can do some of this stuff myself in the future.

Good luck with your Barn and Lift set-up...That would be great!
Take care,

Maybe next year when you have the lift, you can host the New England DYI F-Type Run. We could do oil changes, pulley installs (only lower), heat-x and intake upgrades, exhaust mods, etc. Only half kidding.
Yes.
Next year is likely optimistic. Just bought the land, but have to deal with zoning and all that jazz. But I could see hosting part of the 2022 Double-Secret Probation and Fluid Change Tour.

Hello everyone,
I'm new hear so forgive me if I'm not current in all the good info that has been shared. I found this thread and these in general are so very helpful. I have a 16 F-Type R. What a beast. About 41k miles. I hear that low speed clunk everyone talks about. I'm way out of the original warranty and CPO warranty. I picked up the car used at about 25k miles several years ago. I want to change the Rear Diff fluid, front diff fluid and Transfer case fluid. Rear diff I'm good with and have all the info I need. I'm having trouble locking down which fluid to use for the front and transfer case. When I researched the fluid noted on the bulletins associated with this thread, it seems that maybe those fluids are no longer available? Can you anyone advise on a brand, type, and possible place to buy for the front and transfer case. Thanks and my apologies if this has been covered many times on other threads.
Thanks friends

SilverFox, I’m sorry no one has responded to this. This is a known issue, captive nuts in aluminum aren’t hard to break free, unfortunately. I recall 3 solutions discussed here. I’ll see if I can find the threads.
1. I recall someone drilling through the floor of their trunk to access where the captive bolts are. Bonus: this gave him an inspection port for the transmission breather tube. Caveat: I hope I have the details right.
2. Coincidentally, I was just reading a thread from a member who spun those nuts loose, then found a somewhat difficult way to change the fluid without removing the transmission support bracket.

3. Scott at forum sponsor Velocity AP also ran into this issue, and he posted the method he used, cutting slots to allow access to the spinning nuts.
As it turns out, #1 & #3 are both discussed in this thread.
