Default Battery

OK, so I seem to have an intermittent loss of battery voltage, checked it again this morning before starting and voltage showed 12.3v, I believe that to be too low, and an indication of a bad battery, so as i happened to be near a Halfords, i popped in for a look, and they had a Yuasa black, now, here's the fun part, apparently this battery has a lifetime warranty, I intent to keep this car for quite some time, so this really interested me, so I checked on their system and they say, the battery type is a 096, however my car has a 019 fitted, the 096 dimensions are 278x175x190mm, rated at 740amps, with 75Ah, and bench charge at 4amps. costing £159

The 019 is 353x175x190, rated at 900amps, with 95Ah, and bench charge at 6amps. costing £170. and as it's a 019 that's fitted, it fits in the car, perfectly.

sounds a better battery, but ......thoughts?

What you want for size is HSB019/H8/L5/Group 49 with Calcium plates. The Black is lead/antimony and not the right plate technology.

Halfords has this which is the right replacement.

Yuasa 5 Year Guarantee HSB019 Silve...

Box, Thanks for that, sorry it's taken so long to reply, been busy.

Also, being a miserable git with money, I like to try and get as much for my buck as possible, I have always been particularly bad at giving up on a battery and getting it replaced, In my book, if it starts the car it's a good battery, but nowadays that's just not good enough, what with all the delicate electronics and what have you, but I still like to make absolutely sure I really need to replace it before i actually do. And to give you an idea of how stupidly stubborn I am with batteries, I went out and spent £120 of a Foxwell BT-705 battery analyser, rather than just go and spend exactly the same amount on an actual battery, even though i was about 80% certain it was the battery, and just to be absolutely certain I did indeed need to replace it.

And guess what............Yup, battery is goosed.

Well, I picked up an HSB019 silver from Halfords this afternoon, popped it in the car, in the car park and instantly noticed a marked difference, the engine spun over much faster than before and after a minute or 2 of wonky rev's and cutting out, it settled down and actually just felt a whole lot better all round. Even driving home I swear it felt more responsive.

I wouldn't trust Halfords data books for anything on the X350, or any other car for that matter.

With Halfords find out beforehand, and from elsewhere, what you need.

Oh yeah I know, Halfords data books are crap, and their in store staff know bugger all about cars, that's why I asked here, most places list the battery type as an 096, but some give the 096 and the 019, the 096, leaves a big space, and the 019 fills the gap perfectly, and as I had an 019 in it already, I was leaning toward the 019 anyway, just wanted a bit more info and recommendations from other X350 owners. My local branch had one in stock, so I picked one up

IMHO with the X350 it pays to have the largest capacity, and/or cranking amps battery (calcium battery) that will fit, especially for EU types like me who have a Tdvi. I would have fitted the largest you can get in the car battery range, which is 110Ah, but it's too long fit in the tray.

A 100Ah from FIAMM fits in my case, although quite tight in all directions due to the LPG tank system.

But as they tend to have slightly different dimensions, and mine fits really just about, you need to check case-by-case depending on the exact battery make you want. A few millimeters longer may be too much already.
