Default 2016 F-Type S 6MT Extremely Difficult to go in Gear

So, I went to work today(working afternoons) and the car drove fine on the way in, but as soon as I left work I thought it felt really notchy. Managed to limp home 20
miles, I had to keep turning my car off in order to be able to get it to go in gear, and when I would start it back up it would bog down. Looks like I’ll be calling the dealership tomorrow, was going to test drive a F-Pace SVR Thursday.

You've suffered the dreaded poorly designed clutch failure. Push your dealer to replace it under warranty. They are now on the 4th generation of clutch designs to address inadequate clamping and outright failure of the friction plate leading to the inability to shift into gear. A search will reveal a couple threads on this issue.

Oh there’s no way I’m paying out of pocket for a design flaw.

Read this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...action-158861/

You will have to print TSB and go to a dealer and tell them that you need new clutch, flywheel and so on. They will try to tell you these are wear and tear items and not covered. You need to point them to TSB and tell them you will escalate to JLR corporate, and to give you refusal in writing. They will get approval from JLR to fix this, as this is well-documented and known to JLR flaw with early MTs. Make sure to tell dealer to order a) non-reusable transmission bolts b) correct FFL-3 fluid prior to undertaking repair. Make sure they give you a loaner, as it won't be ready on time if this is the first time they are doing this type of repair.

Good luck.

Thank you very much, it’s being towed to the dealership as we speak.

I found the TSB number but can’t find the actual document. Am I missing something here? I just had it in for service two months ago and they said everything was fine. If they say it’s wear and tear that’s a lot of it in ~1,000 miles

*Nvm. I wasn’t aware that they’re no longer called TSBs now. Found it. Thanks again!

The TSB isn't a recall so wouldn't have come up when they did the routine service unless you reported a problem with the clutch. The failure you report is the third symptom of three that I experienced. Occasional slipping on shifting and vibration on decel in a specific RPM range were the first two. Some people who may or may not be fully hinged had more extreme symptoms than I did. I'm not sure if I have a copy of the full document, but might. I'll check my records.

I had a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 clutch fail in this manner.

Dealership called, had to order a part to pull the transmission, that doesn’t come in until Wednesday. The advisor said if it’s the clutch that’s a wear and tear item and that won’t be covered by the warranty, to which I said it has 21,000 miles, if you think I’m going to pay for that you’re crazy. More to come.

My first two clutches were replaced under warranty. My dealer insisted I pay for the third one but allowed me to buy discounted parts online. They quoted a policy of not replacing clutches under warranty with more than 15k miles on the car. I’m not that gullible but was anxious to get back on the road.

I think this will be the end of the road for this car. Shame because I love this car.

Don't throw in the towel yet. Just go up the ladder until someone makes the situation right. Ultimately, the dealership just wants to get paid for their work. They'll comply if Jaguar will pay them. Jaguar has paid for this repair (mine included) many times over.

i really don’t want to have to deal with this like it’s as routine as an oil change. You know.
