"Wear item", eh?
And if they would say it’s not that many occurrences...considering how few were made it would appear the failure rate is pretty significant.

Dealerships will try to turn you down because they don't make money on such repairs. JLR pays them book rate at a discounted hourly rate, but these one-off jobs take significantly longer than book. So service manager is motivated to discourage you in any way possible without being caught in a lie.

To fight this:

a. Always ask for any decision in writing. They can verbally tell you black is white, and if you call them out just claim you misunderstood something.
b. Always come prepared - in this case you need to have TSB printed and in hand.
---
c. Be aware that each dealer has flexibility to "goodwill" a number of repairs. They won't do this if you are obnoxious to them.

They are on the 4th generation, so another failure isn't very likely. Mine's been going strong since it was replaced.

There being a fourth generation should be enough of an argument that wear and tear isn’t the issue.

i don’t know. After only 8000 miles, my Gen 4 clutch is already starting to exhibit the slippage issue between 1st and 2nd. But that may also have something to do with the tune.

Not likely. The least mileage I've ever gotten out of a clutch was 40k mile (on my pickup truck) and only that because I was towing a racecar all summer long. My MINI has 80k on the clutch and the LandCruiser had 176k on it before the engine swap.

My car is going in gear a lot better after installing the short shifter today. It was easy with a lift (and a friends help). Took about two hours and the bolt took most of that time because I had to move the heat shield. The car now shifts like a high dollar sports car should.

Thanks to unhinged and Stuart at VelocityAP for coming up with and getting the short shifter fabricated.

Dealership called, it's the clutch and the flywheel. They're trying to say it's a wear and tear item. I've opened a case with Jaguar corporate. I refuse to pay for this.

Just out of curiosity, if Jaguar refuses to cover this about how much is this going to set me back?

~$2000 for labor and $1600 firparts at the dealer.
A good performance shop will charge $700 labor and online OEM parts will be ~$1200. If you want to bypass the crappy OEM parts, Spec Clutch can build a high performance clutch and flywheel for ~$1800.

Thank you! Just got a call from the dealership; they said my VIN isn’t covered under the TSB/SSM. But still waiting on the case number to go forward with that.

Did they tell you what the upper end of the VIN #'s were covered under the TSB/SSM?

What year is your car? Have them put it in writing.

I called Jaguar directly. They said my car is not part of it. It’s a 2016.

That's BS. If I remember correctly, 2016 was the first year that the manual transmission was offered. Mine's a 2017 and it was covered. If a 2017 is covered, I don't see how a 2016 couldn't be. Keep fighting.

Doesn’t make any sense to me either. Unless Jaguar replaces it out if good will I think I’ll be footing the bill. This will be my last Jaguar.

Yeah, I hate to start slinging a lot technical jargon here, but that's a load of hooey. If you haven't already, you should read the link to the thread that Luc Lapierre provided earlier in this discussion. When you read that you will also see links to two very detailed discussions related to the compromised nature of the first generation clutch assembly. Those discussions appear to identify that the first gen clutch assemblies were continuing to ship to sometime in September/October 2015 build dates. There appear to be a number of participants on this forum that got JLR to replace their first generation clutch under warranty (and some that got the second gen too). What's the build date of your car?
