This is what I currently have, I'm actually pretty happy with it. Would I be happier with Carplay, or in my case, Android auto? Yes. ☺️
Ideally I'd love it to be wireless, just wondering what my options are given my cars current setup, and of course how much is be looking to empty from my wallet.
Thanks in advance for any info, I've read quite a few threads already but I'm not sure which solutions are relevant to my unit and software version.
I’ll be interested to see what replies you get. I also have a 2016 S (w/ a stick) with the Bosch and want CarPlay. Preferably with the later 10” screen.
I don’t think I’ve yet seen a CarPlay install where everything ‘just works’, at least the first time. Always seems to be a story. A lot of installs where ‘Everything works…except the steering wheel forward/back buttons…or you need an external mic…or answering a call on Bluetooth is not consistent…or the interface cable was too short…or the seller sent the wrong unit…or the DIP switches need to be configured…or the sound quality is poor…or the backup camera doesn’t work…or the car software needs to be updated via SSD, etc.
Several threads on this, maybe things have improved.
You can have a unit to add this to your 8" screen or a new unit and have 10" screen. Both aftermarket, no OEM for your version. I am with @Slappy on this, it seems all solutions are in the "great, but..." category. I will do it anyway, because the OEM situation is plain "bad" even without a but...

Call your local stereo installer and see what they say, a lot of them are installing these types of units now. If you're not prepared to fiddle or experienced, you may want to have someone take care of it for you or leave it as is.
I did the GTA car kit on my 2017 with the Bosch system. Pretty straightforward and everything works as intended. Wireless CarPlay. No glitches. OEM mic. Steering wheel controls work. All good!
Still the same oem screen (8 inch I think) with the hard buttons on the side. I would like to have changed to 10 inch but didn't want to risk the circuit board swaps...
GTA was great on some final setup questions. More expensive than Ali but I wanted to be sure I could get install help if needed
Great videos on YouTube. Pretty quick and easy if you are handy with a screwdriver.
I was doing some online research yesterday and watched the install video for the GTA kit. It looks straightforward and that is probably the one I will go with. I like the fact that all the OEM equipment is left in place.
I agree. It was an easy install and easy to remove with no permanent changes. If you do it, take photos of the Home Screen of the infotainment and send them those and your model year and details - there are multiple different Bosch and Denso models sometimes changing mid year and they will help make sure you get the right unit
Sorry for the misinformation about the one I have (GT6 Pro), and the need for wired CarPlay. Yes its for 2019 and above models.
I would install the unit @Tracy Rominger has (Post #4 above). You get the wider screen, CarPlay, Android Auto, and basically an Android tablet for many other apps (most important - Torque Pro to monitor your engine temp at all times).
Even with upgraded metal coolant pipes I would not drive this engine in any JLR model without real time temp info on the screen and audible alarms set to go off at 230 F.
I finally pulled the trigger and installed the GTA system. A few hiccups along the way but their video was easy to follow and customer support was quick to respond to any questions I had before, during and after installation. Would highly recommend.
