We're working on retrofitting InControl Apps to older cars right now. A 2013 XF and a 2014 LR2. It's been quite a headache for months now, and still have not got it working.

The additional hardware is expensive and hard to find, special cables are needed, and the programming has not been straight forward. Certainly nothing simple like the Surround Sound upgrades or the other retrofits.

Interesting... Something I might take advantage of for my 2015 R, should you ever get it all figured out.

I recall the build options list for the 2015 indicating that if you didn't choose InControl at the time, it could not be retrofitted...one of the reasons I went with MY2016...

Well yeah, JLR always says that.

They say you can't retrofit a reversing camera. I have.
They say you can't retrofit navigation. I have.
They say you can't retrofit the Surround Sound system. I have.
They say you can't retrofit TV. I have.
They say you can't retrofit DAB or Sirius. I have.
They say you can't enable Adaptive Dynamics. I have.

It's not going to be impossible. Just not as easy as the others have been...

Obviously one man's "impossible" is another's "challenge accepted" ;-)

I'm guessing Intouch -> Intouch Pro is just as much fun due to the change in cabling/bus. The reviews of the F-Type in the UK seem to show a different infotainment system that looks more like the Discovery Sport I recently had as a loaner. Getting the GoPro Jaguar app working would be nice on our older steeds ;-)

Honestly the incontrol apps are pretty useless, not sure it's worth your efforts or time to get it working...

Ah now this is where JLR did no-one any favours, the naming of the different systems with InControl...

Long story short, the InControl Touch Pro (NGI, Next Generation Infotainment) in the 2017MY is a completely different infotainment system to the InControl Touch Plus (IAM2.1) in the older cars.

The InControl Apps is the phone connectivity system for the InControl Touch Plus IAM2.1 system. This is what we are trying to do.

Putting a new NGI system into an IAM2.1 car is not on the table.

For the most part I agree, not needing the parking locators etc. My go to app is Spotify which I most frequently use. JustDrive would be useful once it starts being able to read/transcribe text messages on the go like CarPlay. That's allegedly on their to-do list. I would like to see other music providers like Deezer, Apple Music added to the infotainment interface....

The voice interface for JustDrive is currently broken on T-Mobile (and maybe others) due to their voice gateway not being IPV6 compliant which again, they are working on.

Although the interface is poor, I find that Genius Maps, Sygic maps, myTuner and Spotify work well.
Incoming text messages can be selected to be read out loud.
Hey Siri is able to command quite a lot of things, play music..phone Fred etc...
I'm getting used to the system.

I think all of us need to chip in for Cambo to fly here to the states and mod our cars.

wouldn't using incontrol apps be much harder that just changing the infotainment system hardware?

Since Jag makes you register your VIN, you would have to borrow someone's VIN somehow or take the necessary components from another production F-Type

This may be one of those annoying regional market differences again - I have not found any way to read out text messages on the North America 2016MY...

It's illegal to text and drive in most states. Maybe it's just been blocked with the SDD for the US..

I would literally give or pay anything to change out the 2014 nav with anything else.

not "jumping on the band waggon" but the nav on the IAM2.1 is horrid, with all the pop ups and screens telling you about a shorter route every 30 seconds you can't ever see the map. Much easier to use my phone for nav unfortunately.

Sometime in the next month or so I should be making an install of an aftermarket Apple Carplay system to a 2013 XF, which has the same IAM2.1 system as the F-Type's up to 2015 (and some 2016 models, if you have the 770W).

It takes over the Nav menu on the screen, you lose the factory Nav completely, but you get CarPlay instead.

I'll update you when it's done.
