Hey everyone,

I'm a new owner of a 2017 F-Type R AWD here in the Canadian market. Just picked her up this week.

I've been trying to research the various different infotainment versions offered in the F-Type over the last few years, but I seem to find very different information everywhere I look, perhaps because of the difference between certain countries.

So here is my question - is it possible to update the software on my Canadian 2017 F-Type R to have the more modern interface and menu buttons on the InControl system? I'm not worried about getting any of the new features like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, I'm just hoping to get the improved sleek visuals.

My current InControl infotainment system looks like this:


And the updated version that I am hoping to install somehow looks like this:



The dealership advised me that my car is up-to-date already, but I have seen numerous 2017 F-Types with the updated interface in YouTube videos, forum posts, etc. This leads me to believe it must be possible somehow?

In the UK I was offered the update as part of the "Jaguar Enhancement Programme" for owners of specific 2016 and 2017 vehicles (I guess MY17&18) which included Infotainment updates (Feature reliability and enhancements), Engine light illumination (Engine software robustness enhancements), and Electrical software update (Improvement in battery performance). This was back in February 2020 - maybe contact a dealer to see if yours is eligible. It allegedly added CarPlay and Android Auto but my hardware isn't up to it so a subsequent update (which I haven't yet had) removes those items.

 

I really don't care about the visuals on my'14 after 7 1/2 years I'm used to them. But I would love an update to speed it up. I get spoiled really quick in my wife's '17 Maser, Chrysler's Uconnect.

 

I just looked into this for my US MY 2017 Premium. In the screen you can go into the settings and select the tiles to want to have displayed. I think the ones you are looking for are there.

 

Coupé or Convertible?
I know you don’t particularly want CarPlay but it will give you a modern look as well as being miles better than the OEM offering.
If you have a Coupé with the Harman Kardon system it’s a very easy install.
The OEM screen is still there if you should want it, just long press on the home button.

 

Hi, I am a bit confused. I have a 2018 F-type coupe and was told that I could not upgrade to get Carplay because my screen is the smaller version with the buttons on the side. Seeing Malbec's post with Waze on his screen gives me hope. Is it possible?

Depends if you have Bosch or Harman Kardon head unit. If Bosch then you have to go through the dash.
As well as putting details of your car in your signature perhaps do a search.
I’ll repost this, sorry all, it was what inspired me to do mine but then I’ve a Coupé and Harman Kardon.

 

Could one of you gentlemen tell me which infotainment hardware is on my 2017 F-Type S AWD? I am unable to see in https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/user/login

 

Hey did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue as well.
I believe they installed different systems Bosch/Harmon depending on your trim level.
