Default 2018 Nose / Front bar update

Hello, I was curious to find out what other members opinions on the new 2018 F type nose is. I for one believe Jag got it right the first time and that it lets the car down a bit. What do you guys think?

I like the Base/R-Dynamic bumper. Absolutely hate the new R bumper. If I replace my 2015 with a 2018 next year, I will replace the R bumper with either a P7 or SVR piece.

Don't like the new nose, particularly with the horizontal splitter in the former gills (not present in your picture.)

+ 1 on all accounts so far.

The R Dynamic and 400 Sport nose pieces aren't that bad, but the nose piece on the R is awful looking and the Base nose looks really long without the black trim insert.

I don't understand why they did away with that vertical line on the nose that carries up into the headlamp edge to the bonnet edge and then sloping down the door before fading into the quarter panel. It's an absolutely beautiful line that flows all the way through.

It looks like a panamera

The first iteration of a new design concept is usually the best. That first iteration is the designer's attempt to create the very best. Everything after that is corporate pressure to develop sufficient change to drive customer demand to upgrade their model year.

I remember sitting in at a BMW dealer meeting in the early 90s and management saying their car's body designs were near perfect and clean. Then the dealer manager said that wouldn't last.

Soon 'extra' pieces would be added, wider fenders, you name it. People won't buy something that looks like the last years model. It was expected that every year F-type would degrade in design since the 2014/15 model.

I do recognize that it's all a matter of preference, and that these are relatively small changes, but IMHO the looks started to weaken when the 4wd option forced the lift of the engine and changed the hood for every model. Every tweak since has fractionally weakened the design concept.

Go back in time, and the series 1 E-Type was the purest, the prettiest and is now therefore the most valuable. The same is true of the XJ series 1, the Land Rover series 1, the Range Rover "classic" etc. I'm betting that early F-Types will be thought of the same way, so I'm planning on keeping my '14.

I just bet the same way on a '91 V12 XJS - one of the last of the pre-facelift cars, rather than a later model. We'll see.

So who gets to classify the Series of the F-Type? Anyone want to have a stab at finishing this or point me to someone who's already done it?

Series 1 - 13/14 - V6 340, V6S 380, V8S 495 - OTS/2WD/auto
Series 2 - 14/15 - V6 340, V6S 380, V8R 5xx (can't remember) - OTS/Coupe/2WD/auto
Series 3 - 15/16 - V6 340, V6S 380, V8R 5xx - OTS/Coupe/2WD/4WD/auto/manual
Series 4 - 16/17 - I4 300, V6 340, V6S 380, V8R 5xx, SVR 5xx - OTS/Coupe/2WD/4WD/auto/manual

Sure that's not right - a memory is a terrible thing to lose!

Boy, I've been wanting to say........

I really don't like any of them at all. The nose on the v6 models are tolerable. The horizontal line on the R is a dealbreaker unless you can swap it out for a '17 nose, but it doesn't look like it will line up. I could get used to the nose on the SVR but I don't think I should have to get used to anything at that price point.

I'll keep my shark gills. If I were in the market for a brand new FType, I would snap up a '17 as quick as I can.

Using the US model years, I would categorize the Series as follows:
Series I: 2014-15 RWD Coupes and Verts.
Series Ia AWD or RWD: 2016-17 non-SVRs
Series II AWD or RWD: 2017-?? SVR, 2018-??
Project 7 is in its own category.

Only significant difference between the I and Ia is the steering (hyd. vs elect.) and the ECO setup. (2 vs 1 battery).

Yep...Series I vs Series II.

Does anyone really prefer the Series II look? (I know it's a personal preference, but in this case the preference might just be universal).

+ 1 on Series 1. As mentioned previously, this is likely change for the sake of change to sell cars. But for my taste it is a non-starter and pushed me into a series 1 once I saw the 2018 models.

I've never been on a forum where existing owners reacted positively to a facelift of their car. Just wait to see how ugly the next generation F-Type is going to be...

Call me crazy, but I like the new version. The SVR front is my favorite, followed by the 400 sport. I even like the 2018 R. I like the look of the big air inlets, because it looks more aggressive.

I think it is too similar to matter. They need to recharge sales mid run. In all my years on forums it is always the same reaction, the majority of current owners don're like the new one, but over the next few years they get the new one.
