2018 V6 manual
I just got home after a 500 mile drive with a new to me 2018 V6 manual F-Type. I'm still learning the car. On start up it acts as if I'm blipping the throttle, which I am not, is this normal?Can it be programed out in some way. When it has no oil pressure I want it to start at idle. All fun so far
Mine starts at a higher rpm (1200?) than idle for about a minute to get things up to pressure and then it drops to around 650. It doesn't vary the speed between those to levels, though. Mine is a V8 auto, if that makes a difference.

If you are referring to the minute when you hit the start button and the engine revving that is referred to as "the bark". I don't think there is anything you can do about it. Maybe one of the engine tuners has a map that will remove that but I have never heard it mentioned.

Your car is performing completely normally. On cold starts, modern engines with tighter tolerances and modern bearing materials, engineering wants them to spin faster when cold which, I know, is counterintuitive to the old days when both tolerances on moving parts were looser and materials were far more basic compared to today.
If it is any consolation for you - all of the performance cars I've owned in the last 20 years start up at a higher RPM on a cold start, then calm down to a normal operating RPM when the ECT reaches predetermined milestones. It is all done using a data table found in the "idle" section of the tune.
I can show you a pic of a typical (not Jaguar specific) cold start idle table. The computer chooses RPM from the table based on the startup coolant temp. Then the program is designed to run for specific seconds, but as the ECT changes (warms up), so does the run time and the RPM found is a specific cell. A slang way to put it - the ECU starts at a point on this chart, then "runs the table" until operating RPM is reached. In this particular tune, 650 is operating RPM.

The sub category - Startup Idle RPM shows two "bubbles" that produce a data table like the first pic. The first pic, in this case, is the P/N table.
These can be accessed by a tuner. I have to say, I've never changed these startup idle tables in a tune and would have a hard argument with an owner if I was pushed to changed them when I was tuning. My advice is just let the tune do what it does...all legitimate.
ADD - Some are commenting about the noise, and not the startup RPM. If that is what you mean and not the higher RPM, the ECU is just setting the exhaust flaps after startup. Still normal.

"I know, is counterintuitive to the old days ". Yes it is and thanks for the detailed response. From what I read in all the responses my car is behaving normally. It's also counterintuitive to me not to have an engine dipstick. I'll get some pictures up soon. Blue with a light grey interior.
Maybe no dipstick, but you can change your own oil, without a lift, with a Mityvac and a few handtools. rather than the $$$ at dealer.

With the aftermarket ASR controller being talked about right now on the forum you can achieve a true quiet start because it can ensure the valves stay completely closed the whole time.
The quiet start feature might be available in F-Types, but likely on 2021 and newer models when the system went to step motors. It should be described in owners manuals if it is there, somewhere in the driving section where push button start is described.
I looked and could never find it, and there has been discussion on the forum basically saying what I said above. I have a solution now that I’ve installed an ASR valve controller, but if anyone can say for sure that it is a thing on the new F-types I’d be curious. I’ve yet to see definitive evidence that it actually has it.

I searched wide and far in the manual and it is mentioned nowhere, nobody on here has ever definitively said they have found something that works, and my personal experience says that it does not exist (especially if it is default behaviour).

Yup, I’ve read that before, and I’ve seen it mentioned as a feature in review videos. But once again, the conclusion is that it is default behaviour. Default behaviour is the valves are open and then they eventually close after 5 to 7 seconds. I think that is what they are referring to, but different people will have different ideas on what quiet means. That 7 seconds will wake your neighbour so it’s not quiet in my books.
The fact that it is default behaviour I suppose could explain why there seems to be no mention of it in the manual.
