2021 "Knocking" Noise From Front End On Tight Turns
On occasion I'm hearing a knocking or cracking sound from the front end of my 2021 R. I called the dealer and was told they are booked out until February. While this noise is not consistent, it is a matter of concern. I asked if this has been reported or identified by any other late model owners? The answer was "we haven't run across this problem..." So, I'm reaching out to the forum to see if someone may have experienced this.
Thanks in advance...

2. Using proper safety protocols, assuming you have a jack and jask stands, check out each corner ideally with each end up in the air at a time if not it all up on jack stands. Try to move the wheels (once you know they are torqued correctly on the lug nuts) side to side. I once found an end link had given way on a new car in this way.... Stuff happens. Basically make sure it is "safe"....sort of what I do on HPDE days.
3. If you have hit potholes...do the opposite of 1 and check the backside of the wheels for cracks...happens.
4. Look for loose things in the car...engine compartment on thiese cars is pretty locked down but I have found a loose battery in my past on a porsche.....on this car that would be from the back.
5. Odd idea, but have you checked the glove box for loose things (like the wheel lock...). That once got me going... or a loose speaker.....not as trivial to figure out.
Do you have another dealer to use?
Good luck.

1. Check lug torque on all wheels.

Thanks for the recommendations. The noise is definitely from the front end as such, it is most likely a wheel or suspension. We are leaving town on Monday to check on our home in the Lake Tahoe area that has received record levels of snow. I will drop it of at the dealer before we leave and "remind" them that this is the third F Type I have purchased from you guys so please pull her in and take a look!
Yup...Ackerman Effect. Does it feel like a lurching jump when you turn?
Also check the six (three each side) Torx T50 bolts in the engine bay on the four "brace/strut" bars, there have been reports of these being quite loose and resulting in creaking and knocking sounds when cornering. They should be done up RFT.
Once again, the Forum demonstrates its value!

Yo, Tahoe Dave,
I've had a clunk sound in the front end a couple times. On both occasions re-torqueing the bolts on the suspension/steering bits sorted it out. Your car is new, so this seems an unlikely culprit, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Happy New Year

FWIW, not anything as serious-sounding as a front end noise, but I was trying to improve the panel alignment, front passenger/right side headlight area, MY2017 coupe. Via this forum, I learned that there were two plugs in the upper wheel well that allowed access to the two bolts holding that assembly. I popped out the plugs and using a light and exam mirror, saw THAT THERE WERE NO BOLTS HOLDING IT IN! So do be on the lookout for loose assemblies, and check under 'plugs' on panels. In my case, the plugs were in place, just like they were supposed to be, just no bolts. This had been this way from the factory and I bought this car, fall of 2020. Got the right bolts, re-aligned that assembly.. looks great!
Curious to see if this got resolved. I'm hearing the same knocking sound occasionally from the front-end when going up or down driveways, bumps at an angle. It only happens at slow speeds and it is not frequent. My car is also 2021 with 4k miles.
The first thing to check in this case is the security, that is, the tightness of the bolts on the engine bay braces. If these are not tight the result will be the noise you are experiencing. There may be other causes, but check these bolts first.
I have had a similar noise/issue with my 18 svr when locking the wheel to the right to turn onto my main driveway when first driving the car after overnight outdoor parked. It is like a stuttering or skipping sound as described by the Ackerman effect. I would think all the cars with same set ups should experience this then? Most often the car may have been parked on the grass. Doesn't do it when turning to left with wheel at full lock. Jag dealer and Indie mechanic said they could not replicate and checked suspension, lug nuts, etc.. After car is driven it does not happen. The body man at indie shop thinks it could be car feeling resistance and thinking awd needs to kick in. Any thoughts on that theory? Car drives smooth as can be on the road.
