Default 2023 FTR - New Owner Observations

Last Friday (5/26) I bought what will be a daily driver for my wife and I:

2023 F-Type R
CPO with 2,300 miles: I get full bumper-to-bumper for 5.5 years + all maint. is free for the next 4.5 years
1-owner (still had temp. tag on it!)
MSRP: $125,450
I paid: $92,500 + tax
Options: appears to be nearly every one
Ext.: Santorini Black
Int.: Tan Windsor

I absolutely love this car!! It basically checks every box: looks, exclusivity, sound, power, handling, steering, brakes, comfort, practical for a GT car (AWD + hatchback), decent fuel economy, features, etc
I've researched this forum a good bit already and I know there are threads on some of these issues/observations. However, I'll point out things that I've noticed already:
  1. Slightly annoyed by the auto-start feature defaults to on. I know, I can pull a fuse and disable it. I suppose I'll get around to it . . .
  2. ** Update (thanks eeeeek I have been educated) The gas cap will not stay looped over that little "u" shaped notch. It always falls - my last Porsche had a little hole for the cap to push into - worked like a gem.
  3. What on God's earth would go into the little mesh pocket that sits up high behind your shoulder?
  4. ** Update (I got this figured out finally) I can't figure out the ambient lighting. I know there are threads on this topic, and I've played around with the feature, but it doesn't make sense. Maybe the dealer has to activate it?
  5. God help the people who bought new! The depreciation is sickening!! I know it'll drop on my watch too, but happy I didn't' lose ~$30k in only 2,300!!
  6. I removed both the cargo cover and the false floor to give maximum space in the back. Bonus: it seems to let a bit more exhaust into the cabin.
  7. I thought my Panamera 4S was low, but this thing is MUCH lower. However, I've been surprised that I haven't scraped on anything yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
  8. Many people don't seem to know what it is. Maybe my favorite thing - under the radar.
  9. The Jag app seems to be pretty legit - shame I gotta start paying for it in a few months.
  10. Really wish I could monitor my tire pressures while I drive. I guess you can't keep that screen up, huh?
  11. I know that I have "Launch Mode" but once you put the tranny into "SPORT" and select Dynamic Mode - the launch mode is called YOUR RIGHT FOOT! This thing positively RAPES the tarmac. God bless AWD and Superchargers.

Appreciate this community of Jag enthusiasts. thanks for having me.

-Mark

I forgot to mention, I hated that my iPhone cord would get pinched by the console lid. So, I discovered that running it out of back of the lid completely solved the problem. Works like a charm now - moves freely and no pressure/damage to the cable.

Simply gorgeous! If this is your first Jaguar you will find that they are addictive.

Yep, first Jag. We’ve had two Range Rover Sports, Cayenne, two XC90’s, and most recently a Gen2 Panamera 4S. This F-Type R is the real deal - really enjoying it, thx.

BTW, just figured out the ambient lighting. However, I thought it would change the color of the door sill but nope, it appears to stay a light blue regardless of the color I change to.

Great car. And thank you for posting the MSRP and price paid. This goes a long way for people on the site. Everyone is so secretive on payments. Very valuable.

You're welcome. I'm an open book. Bought from Jaguar Hunt Valley in Cockeysville, MD. The original owner is an old guy with multiple homes, one in FL. He bought the car new in FL, drove it back and forth to MD a few times, then decided it wasn't very easy for him to get in and out of it. So, he traded it in after only a few short months. His loss, my gain. Originally it was offered at $99k. However, this group of dealers gets a 60-day window to sell the car. If they can't, then the car is pulled from them and goes to one of the other (17) dealerships in the company. Furthermore, the dealership evaluates every car's no-haggle price every Monday. So, they dropped it to $95k. Still no serious takers. Once they dropped to $92,500 I pounced because it was the cheapest 2023 FTR in the country per Cars.com. The CPO warranty gives me peace of mind with 5.5 years left on the 6-year/unlimited miles warranty. 4.5 years of that with all maintenance included. So, I just think I gotta fill it with gas and replace tires and brakes as-needed.

Best part is that I only had to pay $1,890 in PA sales tax (6%) since my trade took $61k off what the state gets. This saved me $3,660 in real money!

As a Jag owner for decades, the best deals are like the one you got. The extended warranty from Jag is great. The car you bought did not even need an oil change.

You maximized your buy and value.

And honestly, I have really never really had a problem with my Jags. Maybe my 2000 XJ8 way back with a slight coolant leak you could never find. It is nice to have peace of mind; however, these cars are solid.

Many folks here [including myself] have had several Porsche's and understand that although Jaguar's attention to detail is occasionally lacking [for example, the gas cap holder], what Jaguar does right is delivers an experience that combines off-the-chart aesthetics with great functionality and awesome performance...and NEVER disappoints.

This is truly a GREAT car. Don't allow the little stuff to bother you.

Congrats and enjoy!!

Please do not misinterpret my ramblings as being dissatisfied with this beautiful beast. In fact, how incredible that I have to struggle to identify super minor things to even write about? I'm in love with this car. Look for excuses to go places and always take the long/curvey way home. My brother has a C5 Z06 that has been tuned, he also owned a S8 and a CTS-V; all fast cars. Plus, I went to Vegas and tracked for 5-laps each: Corvette C8 Z51, Audi R8 V10 Plus, Porsche GT3 RS, Ferrari 488 GTB, and the Lambo Huracan LP580-2. I must say, especially for on-road, the FTR wins overall. It's effortlessly fast (fast when you're not trying to be), sounds really good, and doesn't break the bank to prove it. Overall, I have zero regrets!

I have never had the gas cap fall of the holder on the door. I just set the edge of cap on the little brace so that it lines up with the edge of the cap and it stays with no issue.

The eco stop/start cannot be defeated with a fuse. one connection in the trunk simply needs to be removed.

Dude, you’re the best! I feel like an idiot. I just went and used your technique - works perfectly! I thought the plastic strap went into the notch.

Not normally a fan of brown interiors but in this case Holy Cow. That tip on the phone cord is genius. Props to you sir.

The build sheet shows the orig owner seemed to check every box. I haven’t seen too many FTR’s with higher MSRP’s.

It is a great car with a few flaws that can show up over time. Keep an eye on coolant levels. Take coolant leak smells very seriously. And keep an eye on lubricants and “lifetime fluids”. Change early and often.

A good local dealership is key to ownership happiness. We have an Asbury Group dealer who sucks and an Imperial dealer who is great.

You’re gunna want to ditch the Pirelli P Zero’s for a set of Pilot Sport 4S’s and a full set of Porterfield R4-S brake pads. But it’s a brand new car you say! Trust me, you don’t want to spend an extra minute on crap tires and pads that poop on your wheels.

Agree with the tires. Pads - the stock Pagid OEM units are pretty good...the Porterfieds are better but might be less standard feeling...they don't bite as hard so you can feel like you have worse pads with them....just how I felt. I went with conti dws06plus in 265/35/20 and 305/30/20 sizing and have no regrets as I can and do use them all year in all weather....they are not as perfect as the pilot 4s tires but under 40 degrees I really think they are superior and they weight less....plus they wear 2x better and cost less.... I find for a street car they are plenty.

No idea! I noticed that too. Strange line item. I also laughed at the leather sun visors. I mean, they must have been made by elves. That being said, they are effective.

Yes, I’ve read several times now that the P-zeros ain’t that great and the PS 4S’s are from the heavens.

Did you hear that brand new 5S’s are coming soon? The timing might work out for me.

really appreciate the knowledge dump.
