Cringe all you want, but this admittedly oversimplification is better than people continuing to think a wider tire makes the contact patch bigger and will help prevent wheelspin. I see this statement everywhere and its just plain wrong. Sidewall height/stiffness, compound material/construction, and tire pressure all have their place in this equation, but if you're choosing a wider tire for the sole purpose of reducing wheelspin, you're doing it wrong... and that's the point i'm trying to make.
Always so polite in response to a detailed and technically sound reply. Certain wider tires will provide better traction and reduced wheelspin.... You are incorrect. What I tried to explain extensively is the facts that only looking for a wider tire is NOT a surefire way to have better traction.

You're picking at semantics and being difficult as usual. Obviously a wider tire will provide reduced wheelspin if you're going from a street compound to a drag radial... There are even situations where the same model will have an increased longitudinal contact patch in a wider size due to sidewall stiffness changes due to varying sidewall height, but in a vacuum (which I've been saying the whole time) wider isn't better for wheelspin reduction. We can go into all the details and intricacies of a tire and its effect on grip all you like; but unless you're planning on making every member's unique tire decisions for them, that's not going to help anyone. Heaven forbid I try and simplify things.

Next time, try and provide a technical explanation rather than your dictatum. I simply offered a technical explanation allowing everyone to come up with their own conclusions based on FACTS. Of course you did not read or did not understand what I wrote... in any event, I bow to your extensive expertise...

Stop acting like you’re smarter than everyone on this forum. It’s getting old.
