Default Aftermarket side skirt

Guys,

My car didn’t come with the optional factory side skirts. I like the factory look. A lot of the aftermarket models are different, I don’t like them.

Has anyone used these? I plan to buy the plain ones and paint them body color. How do they attach? Is it a DIY job?
eBay from China.

Thanks in advance!

@mvining In answer to your question regarding fitment of sideskirts, yes it's a DIY job, but it does come with some challenges. The OEM side skirts are secured by 14 M6x10mm bolts, each side. However these bolts fit from 'inside' the side sill (see pics).

So in order to mount new side skirts, you will have to remove the side sills from the car, unless the aftermarket side skirts use a different mounting approach. The side skirts pictured in your post don't appear to have the thread inserts that the OEM ones do, so they may just use screws directly into the plastic of the side sill. Best to check mounting approach with the Seller before purchasing. This video shows you how to remove the side sills from the F Type

It can prove difficult to remove the kick plates from the side sills without damaging them as they are bonded with double sided tape, so you may want to purchase a new set of kick plates as part of your upgrade project.

I've done the job myself when fitting illuminated kick plates, so let me know if you have any further questions.

Wow! Great video. Really nice job.

Sounds like as long as I’m taking it apart, I might as well add the illuminated tread plates as well. I would order replacements because I see how they get destroyed during removal.

You explained you made the new required wire. I might be able to do that, but it would take weeks and several parts deliveries where I would end up with boxes of extra parts. Couldn’t you just order the required wire? Or what’s the Jaguar part number?

@mvining Just to be clear, that's not my video of how to remove the side sills, it's another forum member who I think has now sold his F Type. He bought his iluminated tread plates from Ebay and the Seller did not include the connecting wires. If you buy the full illuminated tread plate kit (T2R6090), it comes with the metal tread plate, plastic base and connecting wires

These kits are now becoming rare, so the price has gone up significantly since I fitted mine some 2 years ago. Current price from Britcar is £570. Although there is also a kit available from EBay UK Seller at £427 T2R6090 You can of course just replace the kick plates with non-illuminated ones (Jaguar or Union Jack) at much less cost.

Good luck!

I fitted illuminated treadplates to my F-Type a few years ago, got them on sale from Britcar IIRC.
Easy enough DIY job with only one hitch - there is a small horizontal plastic "spoiler'' or mini mud flap on the underside of each sill which is riveted to the sill and also to the frame such that there is no way to remove the sill panel (which has to come off to do the job) without disconnecting that little spoiler somehow.
I suppose I could have drilled out the rivets on one side of the spoiler then reriveted but as I had no rivet gun instead I simple hacksawed up through the spoiler between the sill and the frame, effectively cutting it in half. Quick and easy job with only one downside - each spoiler now has a roughly 2 mm wide gap in the middle but no-one will ever see those gaps unless they are under the car.
Also there was absolutely no way the original treadplates were coming off without destroying them, they are stuck on real hard with glue/double sided tape and they are quite thin and bendy, I only had to sneeze in their general direction and they bent and buckled!
