Default Ambient light F type v6 coupe 340hp

Hello guys, recently when looking at my spec I noticed that it was written :AMBIENT LIGHTING
But nowhere in my dashboard screen can I find how to configure it or at least put the ambient lights on.

I verified the bottom of the handle of the centre console where you find the lights and I found this :

Does it look like I have them mounted without the function on the software to put them on?
If so should I go directly to the dealership to tell them to add the function to use the ambient lights?

I think there's a difference between "ambient lighting" and "configurable ambient lighting".

That's correct configurable lights are a 200 dollar option listed on the right side of the sheet

Ok, but does it seem like the lights are present but just not useable because I didn’t pay for the option?
I wonder if I can ask the dealership to put the configurable lights and if they’re only going to add the function on the software in the case where the lights are already mounted by the factory but not activated

I thought the lights should work, but you can't tailor the colour yourself. Do they show red when you select dynamic mode?

No nothing, they never worked from the day I had the car new from the dealership

You can ask but they won't do it, JLR have a strict policy of not activating optional software (ie a tweak using SDD or Pathfinder) that was not paid for by the original customer. You could possibly get it done by a privateer who has SDD and I am fairly sure Cambo has a list around here somewhere of the functions/options he has enabled using SDD, good luck finding anyone out your way with SDD and the knowledge and experience to use it properly!
Member Valerie Stabenow had the exact same issue and she got the JLR dealer to "turn it on" but the difference is it was an option she had paid for that they simply forgot to turn on at the factory.

You made me look under the "sissy bar" of our base model.

Yes, it seems to have the light bar pictured, but nothing I tried would turn it on. (No, I didn't look at the owners manual, LOL)

Luckily, I just touch the center interior light to turn THAT on, if I need to.

Default Think I've been there

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...3/#post2384906

I purchased my F a MY2017 premium, 6 cylinder, M/T, in the fall of 2020. I also have all the LED strips: door handles, grab handle and when I got the car, they did not light up. I didn't think JLR would put non-functioning strips in a car, so I pressed on with my research. I think the link above will help. Basically it was a dealer tech cure. He had to drill down to a module and enable that lighting. The saga may be all there in the link. If not, let me know, I will check back through my documentation.

Default Not configurable

This lighting issue is not the same as configurable. That changes the color of the lighting in various locations.(IIRC) The door handle, grab handle lighting is more like a courtesy lighting. It comes on when you get in the car. Not sure if it comes on in bright daylight, after the tech enabled it, I never bothered to eyeball it in daylight. It comes on in my garage, generally a low light setting.

Thank you a lot for the information, it’s been 5 years since I have my F type and never thought the grab handle should light at night for example. Even if there are not the configurable ones I do think it changes a lot in terms of interior looks. I am going to the JLR dealership today to see if they can get that worked out !

As your car's spec actually shows ambient lighting, I'd think you have a good case for getting a dealer to activate it since it ought to have worked from the factory. Good luck!

Mine is configurable, and does work (2017 V6s) but are completely useless. They do have color options, but so what, they are beyond dim. Even the trunk light is worthless. I honestly don't know how we got here. A single, old-school incandescent bulb makes a lot more light than the worthless Jag interior LED's.

I had ambient lighting on my build sheet but it wasn’t working. Dealer replaced the BCM to fix it.

Correct. Cars with non-configurable ambient lighting still get soft blue in the door handles and the center grab handle.

Here are the photos showing the lighting in the door and grab handle areas. Center photo is from under the handle to show the LED strip. Color is pretty much spot on.

Note that the door handle color doesn't change with controllable ambient lighting it stays blue.
