Light turns green and a group of kids start strolling across the street as if no cars are coming (including me in front). With windows open they all give me a big thumbs up and one of them yells, "Love your Jag, it's the dope s#%t".

Reinforcements arrive in October. We'll show those kids who really own the streets.

In spite of it being - I was informed a little while ago from one of my police contacts - the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta? There goes one of our police escorts! Now I have no choice but to increase our speeds to prevent any of us getting hit by flying pumpkins!!!

I can see the write up now:

"We were traveling at rapid speeds as a group when all of a sudden a giant - as in 100 pound! - pumpkin was seen sailing over our cars, barely missing us! It was, to say the least, quite a scene. Luckily, we drove past unscathed"

Leave it to Messerschmidt to figure out what to do with leftover WWII German canopies: The ultimate Lobster Run.

Sorry 'bout the lengthy setup...
I'm in San Antonio, where we're short on gas. Where my street goes into the major road is a gas station. I'm coming home on the major road, and there are 56 cars in the right turn lane waiting for gas. The station has another entrance on my road. There were nine cars stopped in the only lane waiting for gas. There were more coming down the road to fight those going up for gas.
I went "up the down staircase" going the wrong way up my street because it was blocked by the cars coming down to get gas. I got up to where I could cross over to the correct lane, but have to pass through the line. When I got there, the car I needed to move did, and I thought I'd just go ahead - until a punk in a raised pickup truck threw it in front of me and started screaming at me. After a while, my curiosity got to me and I turned down the stereo and lowered my window to hear what he was ranting about.

The first thing I head was "Yeah, you got a nice car, but that don't mean ****!"
Then - "I've been in this damn line for two hours and you ain't cutting in front of me!"

I said "Dude, I'm just trying to get home", while pointing to my left turn signal. The next car let me through.

In texas, that sort of situation could have led to a shootout. Come to think of it...here in DC it definitely would have.

So I'm pumping in gas and a fellow walks up and says, "That car looks so good it looks like it hasn't even been built yet!"

Ever since i changed the color of my car to voodoo blue. Its been getting so much more attention in a good way. Downtown everyone seems to just stop and smile. I've had people even stop in the cross walk while im at a red light and take pics of the car. The funniest by far was when a group of kids probably on a field trip stopped in front of my car an whipped out a selfie stick to take a group pic with my car, they especially loved the "JAG RAWR" plate. The light turned green and people behind me started honking but the kids didnt bother to move until they got a good pic, finally they moved aside and all gave me a thumbs up as i took off. Love seeing how this car brings a smile to the faces of other people.

Was at Taco Bell drive through last night. It was late so after placing my order I proceeded straight to the second window, one car in front of me. I'm waiting and hear some shouting and check my rear view mirror to see a Taco Bell employee hanging out of the first window shouting at me to reverse back. Confused, I reversed back to the window to find the employee with a big smile on his face. He said, "Ahh, a Jaguar F-Type! I couldn't see what it was from back here! Nice car man!"

I am in telecom and ran a service call in the F-Type because I was out in the area. Never a great idea because it is better that customers believe you are poor or frugal lest they believe they are paying too much for your services.

Of course I get spotted leaving and the IT guy goes WTF!!??? Oh well ....

Last night, my 19-year old kid wanted to go to Cold Stone to pick up some ice cream. We pull up right in front of the store and there is a group of teens eating ice cream outside. Everyone is looking at the car when we get out and one of the teens recognizes my son.

The teen comes over to greet my son, looks at the car, and says "wasn't expecting you to come out of that"...lol.

Appearances matter, people judge. I am almost at the point where I am fearful of taking my car to work, for fear of losing management contracts, as our owners will perceive they are paying us too much. Hard to make a vanity plate that says "I drove a YJ Wrangler for 20 years, & saved up my swear jar".

And before people beg to differ about caring about other people's perceptions, it straight up matters. There is no way around it. If I could lose biz because of perception, it is more complex than saying "you don't want to work with them anyway".

Also, I realize that times have changed.... The Jag in for 32K service, my rugged '95 Wrangler gets 1000x more stares from the opposite sex than the F-Type. It isn't the 80s anymore. Lol. And I used to get crap about my scratchy beard during the grunge years and now they are all the rage.

As an engineer in a former life, I learned that it was important to use the right tool for the right job. Having five different vehicles makes it possible to select for appropriate utilization and social circumstances. Taking the F type to a biker bar doesn’t seem quite appropriate (and is downright risky). The bike is Derigeur.
