Seems if you live over seas you have to wait longer once order is placed.

 

Dealer reached out yesterday, confirmed, March, my order will go in for MY19 F Type R!!!

I can't wait (keep in mind, I have been as I put my deposit down first week of November!)

I'm sure it will be worth it!!!

 

Just curious to learn if you got any type of discount (unlikely unless you are a well-known, repeat client) & if you are planning to buy or lease?

 

We havn't spoken numbers yet, given I've waited so damn long, and they've been sitting on 1k of my money, I'm gonna push it hard. I plan to put 50% down and finance the rest over 5 years.

 

What was the necessity of a NOVEMBER deposit. If you take that out of the time line, a March order and a June delivery (90 days) seems reasonable to me especially given the time required for shipping. I find the satisfaction of ordering a vehicle with the exact specifications you want as opposed to what the dealer network wants for you is worth the wait. If only JLR and others would adopt a model with more options and a greater ease of ordering, as opposed to the buy it off the lot model. Again we in NA could learn from the Europeans.

 

In my case, I finalized my order and gave a deposit on 10/31/2017 for a 2018 F-type coupe. By 11/30/2017 my dealer told me:
On 1/11/2018 he said:
Next month meaning February.

I pointed my dealer to KarimEls's post #22, above, and await his opinion as when my order will be submitted.

I walked into the dealership in October, and told them I was purchasing soon, told them it would be a CTO order, they said, we are ready when you are, 3 months from the time you put your deposit down (meaning get your order in). Don't think they sell many F Types which is strange since this is affluent Silicon Valley. Then 2 months of, nope, we still can't put your order in after November, and now they are telling me March is the magic month. I'll keep everyone posted.

This is the most un-illuminating thread I have ever read. So what does it take to order a Jaguar. I have a hard time believing that it is more difficult to order a Jaguar than to order any other automobile. The idea that a dealer can't process an order for 5 months, half a year (November to March) makes absolutely no sense to me. Under normal circumstances I dislike dealer/importer people monopolizing websites, but in this case I would like to hear from someone at a dealer or JLRUSA explain this mess.

I get the sense that the issue is that Karim wanted a MY 19 vehicle long before the start of the model year and that this was the source of the long delay. If Karim had ordered a MY 18 vehicle in November (or October if I read correctly) then a normal order would have been available with the normal delivery time. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My understanding is that the production lines are operative 12 months a year other than at model year change over which for most manufacturers takes place in late summer.

As I said I would appreciate some illumination on this issue since I tend to order automobiles rather than purchase off the lot.

 

The '18 model year seems to be shortened and dealers never really had a good selection of '18.

 

If the MY 18 was shortened, then the MY 19 should have been lengthened which would have helped Karim. I can't believe they shut down the line for an extended period of time.

 

I ordered my car on 15th january... production number planned for 3th april.... It been pulled forward at leat 3 weeks : now 1st week of march !
Dealer said there will be a production gap for 24 hours for small maintenance and setting up changed robot settings. Supposed to start production
of MY19 on the 1st of april... Question still is if that would be EURO6d norm [ petrol engine with particle filter ] of still without.

Small anecdote about the fixed date to regiter the car. We had an MG-F delivered in 1997 on april 8th... Took it for a spin and the bumpy ride
may have induced the early birth of our second daughter on april 9th... This time the wife isn't expecting..

Suaro, I had the same experience as KarimEls. I walked into a dealership in late November with my build sheet and checkbook, but was told they no longer made the MY18 (actually, the dealer negotiated a price with me before realizing he could not deliver).

 

Brock. So is it your understanding that the F was out of production from at least October/November 2017 until April 1, 2018. Wow ! That is quite a state of affairs. I realize the F is a low volume vehicle, but to shut down the line for 6 months and have it sit idle boggles the mind. OR does JLR do NA cars for 6 months and then EU cars for 6 months? My understanding was that with modern computer controlled assembly and just in time inventory that there was infinite flexibility in the lines. OR is this a JaguarUSA sourced issue. But whatever the cause, selling luxury vehicles this way has got to up-set a fair number of people. I hope that we will get an authoritative answer in this threat as to what it takes to order a Jaguar and why. I am half contemplating ordering a XF Wagon to get what I want, but this is not encouraging. I look forward to more information.

The more I read this thread, I begin to think this is a dealer issue i.e.dealers not knowing how or when to place an order. Powerhouse said he ordered in November, whereas it appears Brock and Karim were unable to place November orders. Now Karim says he went in to the Dealers in October. If there was a cut-off looming, he should have been told. But as I said this can be explained relatively simply by someone with inside JLR knowledge.

 

This is where i am, ordered the car on November 7th 2017, was ordered early so got the upgrades such as 10" touchscreen at old price, was told it would be in on the 16th of February, dealer informed me then it shows his stock in for 27th February, gave him a ring today for an update, the sales man i was dealing with was off so talked to the sales manager, he said wait till i see, came back with, i can't get through to the factory but i have a VIN number, he will let me know tomorrow. What does i have a VIN number means in terms of delivery, i don't.

 

Automotive manufacturers plan production based on a 'pull' system that is defined by days supply. If the dealership days supply exceeds a certain number, such as 90 days, the factory will shift production to another vehicle that has a lower days supply to maintain dealership inventories.

If the X152 has a consistent days supply over a number that JLR and the dealerships feel comfortable with, production will be discontinued until the days supply comes down to a predetermined level. The production line doesn't just close down and sit idle, but continues with another vehicle. Most lines can change over to another model with three to five hours with little difficulty. The challenge is to let the component suppliers know ahead of time so they can adjust their inventory levels as well to match production demand.

When I did the factory tour in late 2016, the F Type line was in its own building. There is no way they could make a different vehicle in that facility.

 

I would be surprised if that is the case having visited over twenty different production lines from various manufacturers over the years. Some can make three different models simultaneously since each line is computer regulated. Molds and dies can be changed over within a few hours and another vehicle produced.

I have not seen the X152 production line, but I would be very surprised that JLR would invest so heavily in a unique production line for a low-volume vehicle given demand for other models. I haven't seen X152 sales numbers for 2017, but they will most likely be down from the 2016 level.

 

It is in its own building from start to finish. They finish at 4pm and don’t work weekends.
