The production line doesn't just close down and sit idle, but continues with another vehicle. Most lines can change over to another model with three to five hours with little difficulty. The challenge is to let the component suppliers know ahead of time so they can adjust their inventory levels as well to match production demand.

I hope this helps.
I am personally quite familiar with the "Just in Time" MRP & ERP model you were hoping to position but in this case, you probably should have started your statement above with the term "Generally, Automotive production..." as it appears that your statement may have been complete BS.. lol

I am quite familiar with the production systems as well, but if you feel it's 'BS', that is certainly your right. I honestly am not going to get drawn into any sort of 'forum debate'.

Since I'm from Birmingham, I must see the production line next time I'm visiting family in Solihull.

I really recommend booking a tour to any Jag enthusiast visiting the UK.
https://www.jaguar.co.uk/experience-...urs/index.html
The F Type is built at Castle Bromwich.
When my wife and I did the tour we were the only ones booked so I asked to see the F Type Line only. We got a personal 3 hour tour. The building where they stamp out the body panels is mind blowing... see the video link I posted.
I hope you can get to go.

big change for '19 is the 10" Touch Pro Screen.

Per Jag Canada
Following the mid-cycle refresh from 2018MY, changes introduced with the 2019MY program are relatively minor, but bring the following:
 Engine / Lineup changes:
o Deletion of the 400 Sport Special Edition – as noted in the 2018MY bulletins, this program was a one-year only Special Edition
 Exterior updates:
o Re-introduction of the 20" 5 Split-Spoke 'Style 5039' wheel with Gloss Black finish: this wheel is optional on all trim levels excluding the SVR. Was previously known as the 20” Tornado – Black at 2017MY and earlier
o Deletion of the 20” 5-Spoke ‘Style 5060’ wheel with Dark Grey Diamond Turned finish: this wheel was exclusive to the 400 Sport Special Edition and not carried forward
o addition of the P300, P340 and P380 Badges – signifying rounded horsepower output
o SVO Premium Paint Palette made available
 Interior update:
o Delta Aluminum Console finisher (already standard on R-Dynamic trim) will now also be available as an option F-TYPE and R trims
 Infotainment:
o Standard 10” Touchscreen (replaces 8” Touchscreen)
 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems:
o standardization of Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitor and Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter
o introduction of optional Blind Spot Assist

This is reflected in the *current* UK configurator, which I'm pretty sure is the MY19 one, as I noticed that part of the URL for the UK configurator includes '/f-type_k19/' (rather than '/f-type_k18/' which is contained in the current US MY18 configurator URLs).

Wish they'd go back to just naming the wheels!
These low production 'limited' edition specials (like the sport 400) just aren't that special, so I'm not sure why they do them tbh.
And yeah, the new touchscreen appears to be the biggest change, no doubt for the better.

I agree. Naming wheels is more special than Numerical nomenclature.

Orbit, Tornado or Cyclone is much better than 5401, 5905 and 4035 (Numbers not Representative)

They probably started to run out of wheel names that hadn't already been used and/or
were copyrighted by someone else, and all that was left were some pretty dopey names, so they went the much easier numbers route instead.

I wasn't trying to get into a debate. I was just giving you a "hard time" (BS comment) because the poster above mine had stated that the production for F-Types was a dedicated plant without need or capacity to be quickly modified as is common in other production methods. So, I was really agreeing that what you stated is generally accurate in most case. it just doesn't appear to be the case here.

Cool?

Default 2019 F-Type Availability

I have been trying to order an F-Type since December, 2017. At that time the dealer told me that the production window for 2018's was closed and I would have to wait for production for 2019's to begin. January came and went, and now we are halfway thru February. I did put a deposit down but was told that the factory has not begun accepting orders yet. However, the dealer did send me some 2019 Jaguar F-Type documentation. "Production Job#1 is January 2018, On sale: Estimated Spring 2018, First Order Call: To be announced by Distribution".
The base car's MSRP will be increased by $850 for the 340 HP model. Model designation will be based on horsepower, so the 340 HP model will be logo'd P340. They will continue to offer a manual, which is what I want to order. Pricing for almost all of the previously available options continues, all pretty much unchanged in price. I plan on going to the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto on Friday. I will see if Jaguar has any North American execs there who can give me any more information and will put up a follow-up post.

Relative to the unending weight discussion, I note the brochure speaks of “weight from” which I interpret as dry weight.

FYI, Mike is a Jag dealer in Maine - those of us who know him hold him in high regard.

@Bill.

I went to the San Francisco Auto Show where they had a ton of NA Jag execs, and I told them of my situation, they were mostly clueless as to when 18's were done and 19's where to begin order taking. Good look with them and let us know, My dealer is telling me, my 19 order for an F Type R MY19 goes in March (we are almost there) and I'm one of the first in the queue, we shall see!

On a good note, car will be worth it and I can't wait for my baby!

KarimEls - I had two dealers tell me pretty much the same thing (18 production over & waiting for window on 19's to open). My local dealer is pretty spotty about keeping me in the loop, tho, which is unusual for someone in the retail auto business, and who has a deposit from me.

Maybe someone at the Toronto show can give me something more definitive to go on this Friday.

Angry Towards the third quarter of the 2018

On 2/8/2018 I sent an email to Jaguar via their website asking " WHEN will my dealer be able to order 2019 F-Type coupes. ".

They responded today with:
We anticipate your authorized Jaguar retailer will be able to order a 2019 Jaguar vehicle towards the third quarter of the 2018 year. I do apologize we do not have an exact date.
With the 3rd quarter starting in July that means waiting to possibly June, 4-ish months from now to place the order.

That's BS. They'll be shipping 2019 models well before that, unless 2019 is very different from other years.

Edit: That's BS from Jaguar, not you.

Hi DJS,

Chuckle, Chuckle. I assumed the BS applied to Jaguar

I am not 100% confident in the credibility of the Jaguar people that respond to email. Months ago I sent them an email asking a question about their fancy, colorful, 115 page soft covered book "Jaguar F-Type 2018, The Art of Performance" that I got from the dealer. The person that responded had no idea what book I was talking about.

I'll nag my dealer on March 1st.
Bill
