Default audio system questions

Reading some of the recent audio system threads has left me scratching my head. I have a '14 V6S 'vert and am unsure what audio system I have. The build sheet I got from the local dealer says "speaker sound system high performance", and I have Meridian logos on the door liners. I do not have the surround sound menus available. So, do I have the 770w system, and need a local wizard with SDD to enable surround sound? I can supply VIN if needed. Thanks for your wisdom...

The 770 system state Meridian Surround. It is likely that you have the 380 watt system, which does not have the center speaker in the dash.

If the speaker badges on the doors say just Meridian then you have the 380W system. If they say Meridian Surround then you have the 770W system.

Would this also be true for a 2017 F-Type S? I'm looking at buying used and the dealer told me the car is fitted with the 380W, but it says Meridian Surround on the door speakers. Could he be wrong?

Yep, he is wrong, that rule definitely applies to a 2017.

Thanks, I spent an entire night reading the manual book and turns out that 2017 models of all trims have the 770W system as standard and they don't offer the 380W system.

Yes! When I bought my '20 F-Type (lease return CPO) I never contradicted the Jag dealer's erroneous description of it having the 380w Meridian because I was negotiating price. Turns out I knew the car better than the sales team because it was obviously the "Meridian Surround" setup. I ended up saving $25k off the original price on a like-new convertible with only 2,800 miles.

But ...on second thought, maybe this is a common pre-owned sales technique, letting buyers think they're getting more than they're paying for!
