Default Black spots on garage floor

Noticed some not so insignificant black spots on the garage floor under what appears to be the rear axle / exhaust.

I’ve included some photos that appear to show something black leaking from both exhaust pipes.

Any ideas?

Soot. Normal and nothing to worry about. When the exhaust is cold, water drips out from the connections, rather than remaining vapor until all the way out the tailpipes. With that water comes soot from the unburned fuel, which is more prevalent during cold start and warmup.

That’s normal. There are holes there that allow condensate to drain out of the exhaust system. Leaves black spots on the concrete floor.

You didn’t have to turn the car over to show us.

Already answered - But I don’t recall seeing that much, seems like a lot.

Thanks everyone! Not sure why they uploaded upside down since they were they were appearing normally on my phone.

Anyway, glad to hear it’s normal. Could it be an excess amount due to an issue with the catalytic converter? I had a blinking CEL earlier that was the result of a vacuum line coming loose on the engine. I also ran a can of seafoam and BG 44K through the gas tank in the last few weeks.

It is most likely that the amount of condensation drainage is a function of your local atmospheric conditions, or you might be firing up the car occasionally and shutting it down again before the engine is properly warmed up.

Yeah, you will NEVER get spots on the floor of your garage if you drive away promptly. If your normal cold-start procedure is to let the revs drop before driving away...then DON'T. Just drive gingerly until the temp indicator on the dash starts to rise. (Don't go '*****-out' until about 10 minutes has elapsed, though.)

I don't think your other issues (or BG 44) would have caused an increase...you are just becoming paranoid.

I only agree partly with that. I start the engine, then buckle up, set various modes, put on my shades, and select a station on the radio. By that time, it's off fast idle and I drive away gently. Two or three minutes (or more) is excessive warmup, unless you need that for the windows to clear. The 20-30 seconds to come off of fast idle is not excessive.

Then again, I'm not optimizing to keep my garage floor spot-free. Mine sleeps in the driveway.

^^ I pretty much do the same. Even though our exhaust has the black condensation visible on its surface, ours doesn't drip on the floor.

I DO back our car out of the garage before buckling up, checking mirrors, etc. That's because our garage door sometimes opens again after it closes...gotta fix that someday.
