Default Blacked out my Wheels...

For over a year now, I've been wanting to change my orig silver wheels to black.
First, tried to exchange/buy another set of black wheels, ranged from $1200 to $1500 for used black 20" wheels with tires, plus shipping costs. Didn't work out. Wife didn't want another set of extra wheels stored in garage.
Looked at painting or powder coated the wheels black, $600 - $800. Didn't get around to it.
Then saw a can of Plasti-Dip paint sold at Lowe's for less than $6. Looking around saw DipYourCar site online who sold entire kit for $36 + $9 shipping. Saw the videos, looking easy enough. Bought the black wheel kit. Took me 2 hours for basic easy install in garage.
I think it turned out great, I'm pretty happy with it...

Is that an essentially flat sheen? Do they make a high gloss version? May be the solution for my curbed gyrodynes.

I bought the basic $36 black wheel kit :

Yes, you can get many other upgraded high gloss & metalized kits:

I think the wheels would look better with a gloss finish, the flat black doesn't go well with the BRG imo.

Flat black will work well with a diamond cut facing.

Side note, but the metallic flake that Jaguar used in their paints is beautiful.

I need to look at my old Gyrodynes. I don’t remember the dark grey (even though they were called black) being metallic.

Jaggyx may have been referring to the BRG?

Yup, the green above and the black I have are both full of flake. I've had many people compliment the color when seeing it in the sun and I just noticed in the picture above that the green is also full of flake.

It's all personal taste, but I think I like the before version. With that said, the wheels look great on their own.

I used black plasti dip + glossifier to do the wheels on a friend's civic si several years ago. In my opinion the glossifier is essential if going the plastidip route (unless you're particularly wedded to the matte look for whatever reason).

I myself am currently debating methods for blacking out my blades when they're off the car this winter. I thought they looked a lot better in gloss black on the original concept car:

I think Porsche has some of the nicest all black gloss wheels. One of my business partners 911 gts has gloss black center lock 20's that look super deep black. Not sure if its multiple layers of gloss coat or what, but depth of paint seems to more so on Porsche's.

One of my clients has a 1967 (i think, whatever the first year of the 911 was) Porsche that he bought new and still drives quite a bit, it still has original paint and looks pretty schmick.
