Default Bye bye Standard Options!

Those of you that are interested in 2018MY F-TYPE, seems like 2017MY is the right balance of options that were standard.

Seems like for 2018MY, you literally have to pay for EVERYTHING. I guess to some people thats not a bad thing. I sense a lot of custom orders coming ahead. Panoramic roof? Gone. Power lift gate? Gone. Dual zone climate? Gone. Garage door opener? Gone. BSM? Gone. Rearview camera? Standard(But thats a federal mandate). Keyless entry? Gone. 770w Meridian? Gone. Theres a slew of other items that are no longer standard. That was just the short list.

But every F-TYPE for 2018MY will come with TouchPro, LED headlights, Torque Vectoring and the new revised seats. I suppose technically its possible to order a super stripped F-TYPE R for under $100k at $99900. But I see dealers ordering fully loaded cars or customers ordering custom cars.

The naming of the new line up is as follows:

F-TYPE
F-TYPE R-Dynamic (Formerly known as the "S")
F-TYPE 400Sport
F-TYPE R
F-TYPE SVR

Jaguar has aligned their color palette to match Land Rover(ie: Polaris White is now Fuji White, Ammonite Grey is now Corris Grey, Ebony Black is now Narvik Black, etc.) 2018MY will also see the discontinuation of Firesand, Italian Racing Red and Black Berry.

Keep in mind that this for the NA market. Let your thoughts and opinions begin!!

Sounds like Porsche and one of the things I hated most.

Sounds like everything became more expensive and its being hidden by customizability. That being said some of the features that are now options were stupid in the first place; who needs dual zone climate control in a cabin this small?

Interesting that they're bringing back the aluminum roof.

How the hell is keyless entry gone? The whole system relies on that.

They're on the EU configuration. 17lbs (or maybe kg?) lighter and they look a little different. Not quite as nice, but if it was 17lbs weight reduction i'd consider it.

From a visual standpoint, I like the shape of the standard "sports seats" for 2018MY from the previous years. You can see the overall shape in general has changed. Its good for an additional 1.6 inches of legroom. Weight savings between both seats is 18lbs due an aluminium frame. I'm not sure if that will be pattern on the seatcovers

My first F-TYPE had the metal roof and I had it wrapped in gloss black vinyl. My current one has the glass roof and I do like the fact that it creates a more open, airy feeling. As for the dual zone, my girlfriend begs to differ. She keeps her side on 73+ while mine is a 69.

Both new seat options look very nice. I did not care for the sport seats currently available.

The new naming convention is stupid.

I like the a la carte options, hoping they keep the prices reasonable. It will make finding the car you want on the second hand market tougher which for those that are going that route in the future.

I think JLR are trying to reposition their brand higher up the "premium" ladder - going from bundled options to a la carte (and likely more expensive) the same way as Porsche does is one way to ratchet prices up.

They have already stated that the next Range Rover will be more upmarket / expensive than the current models. You can already see that playing out, I bought an "old shape" RRS in 2012 for $72k inc taxes pretty much fully loaded with extended leather everywhere, half a rainforest of wood in the cabin, it even has a refrigeration box. Looked at trading it in for a new model and to get a comparable equipment level on a 2017 will cost $90k inc taxes.

I am guessing they will use a similar approach with their Jaguar models.

The configurator has now reverted back to the MY17

I think quite a few things may of been wrong with it. The UK one showed a LHD car for example.

I don't think the USA one has come out yet, i'd be surprised if they european standard options is the same as the USA (USA usually has more standard and its cheaper.... Grrrrrrr )

Oh I see...
I like the the 16/17 more visually, also like those holes that could possibly be used for harnesses vs the useless slit in the middle of the new one; 18lbs a seat is pretty convincing though.

Goodbye to IRR? I wonder why they made the choice to get rid of it? IMO it's a fantastic color for this vehicle and that's why I ordered mine in it. Glad I bought the 2016 when life was simple!!

Is the Morzine Grey headlining still an Option? It gives an open airy feeling without needing to wear a hat on sunny days.

All this and many pounds lighter than the glass roof and associated electromechanical gubbins.

The seats look interesting - albeit both options are the same seat with different covers - and should be quite a bit lighter than the 'two-man lift' of the current wingbacks.

With the Climate Control, maybe if you wore shorts?

Maybe they only did this in the UK, but you would have needed some serious OCD problems to have noticed...

I personally don't see the point of many options that came with my car. For example, why would anyone want heated windshield in a summer-only convertible?! Or dual climate control when I ride mostly with top down and mostly by myself.

+1 ... they look awful and break up the vertical lines on the present fascia that align beautifully with the body lines.

The R-Dynamic fascia looks good though... much better than "R"

I agree the horizontal slits on the new R are hideous. I wonder if the R-Dynamic would get some ugly giantic new back emblem as opposed to the S emblem.

Got to give it to Motor Trend when the guy said you start out with a beautiful, clean design like the 2015 and then it is all downhill from there. First the painted diffuser, the ugly big sills, and now this .... bleech. The devil horn spoiler on the SVR.

Congrats to those with the true classic, clean look of the 2015.

Datsun 240z vs latter variants best comparison. Beauty IS important in a car - you can't make up for ugly with more HP.

Memory seats don't make a lot of sense either - except when you get back in after a service.
