Default Can Dealer set sidelights/DRLs to always on?

For increased visibility and frankly 'cause they look cool - I'd like to have the sidelights on all the time like some countries have (not UK). It would save me having to remember to flick em on when I start car, and off when I stop.

Has anyone got a dealer to do that for them ? is it possible ?

according to a web search:

"Under EU rules, since 2011 all new cars are required to have daytime running lights that come on automatically when the engine is started, and which turn off automatically when headlights or sidelights are lit."

I'm surprised there's not a hidden/engineer menu accessible that has this stuff on it tbh - maybe no one has found it or leaked it yet ?

though looking at this I'm confused, as it suggests that the line of light around the headlights I'm talking about are called DRLs - and they are the law in EU (and hence UK).. so why ain't mine on all the time ?

Are your car headlights turned on?

Not always on in my car - they turn off when I put the car in P, and come on when I shift out of P. Noticed that when I was sitting in a line at Canada customs behind a shiny vehicle.

In my other car that is a manual they come on when I put it in first. If I sit with the car running in neutral they are off.

Yup, DJS is right for mine - they do not turn on when I start the car, only when I go into D or R.

Hence when I had car in N and went round front to check - they were off.

Waiting till dark last night and tested, and when I went into R or D they went on then.

So all is well.

I think they turn on when you disengage parking brake. I never noted them turning off when driving regardless of gear.

Mine turns on as soon as I unlock the doors. If ignition is not turned on after x sec, they will turn off again.

I will double-check again. I do notice that car acts differently when I unlock it at night. It turns on all lights and handle illumination.

Sorry...I'm too lazy to go look. I leave auto wipers, lights and high beams on all the time. Whatever the car wants to do with that info is fine by me as long as I can see. (I do turn the rear fogs on when in heavy rain.)
