Car Cover Care
I have a Coverking indoor cover for the Jag. It fits well and was fairly expensive. The side facing the car feels like microfiber or flannel type material and the outside is a satin type material. My question is, how do you clean the cover? Can you throw it in the washing machine and dryer?
From CoverKing:
Satin Stretch should be dry cleaned only. Spot cleaning can be done using a mild detergent.
Washing A Car Cover
AdministratorApril 27, 2020 19:36We do not recommend machine washing any of our car covers. Instead, hand wash in a large basin using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Swish around the cover and rub the material together to clean extra dirty areas. Thoroughly rinse in cool water and air dry.Satin Stretch should be dry cleaned only. Every material is different so I'd follow the manufacturer directions if you have them. I have a number of car covers of various brands but I wash them all the same way. I have one Coverking brand and the instruction sheet that came with it does indeed say that for the "satin stretch" materials, no machine washing. However, it indicates that the other materials can go in a machine. The instruction sheet for my Covercraft is much more specific, saying they can be machine washed, but DO NOT USE the type of machine with an "agitator". They also say NO SOAPS or DETERGENT! Instead they recommend "Fantastik" brand All Purpose Cleaner which is not even a laundry detergent, but rather it comes in a spray bottle for like wiping kitchen countertops (who ever would have thought?). And even has instructions for machine settings: Use Normal or Permanent Press cycle in cold or warm water (DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER!). Run through two rinse cycles. Air dry. DO NOT put the cover in an automatic dryer. Do not dry clean." Every couple of years I bag up all my covers and go to a self-serve laundry where they have an absolutely enormous machine (the kind that tumbles with a window in front - don't know what to call them) that will do like six covers in one load. Then I actually string up an old fashioned clothesline at home and hang them to dry. Its about time again so I was actually thinking about this just last weekend. Luckily, I've saved all my instruction sheets, but they ought to put the washing instructions on a little tag like they do for clothes because you wouldn't be the only one who lost your instruction sheet.
