My cubby connections are just like what you show for the 2016R and 2017S except mine's just the base 6 cylinder. I never realized there was even a cd player in there until about 3 years ago. It's a virtual... you put in whatever CD you want stored, upload it and then take that CD out and put in another. You can upload 10. The issue is the uploading. Unless you are in the car driving, you can't put the car in accessory mode and do it. The car shuts itself down after 15 minutes. Maybe I wasn't doing it correctly. Most CDs are about an hour. The touchscreen interface isn't the easiest to navigate for this process either.
You are right Valerie, I stick a CD in and it uploads on the way to work, you can't do it without the car running because like you mentioned the car shuts down.
Can't add to the original post, but I randomly found this on another forum - a UK late 2015/early 2016 base coupe. One USB, one aux, one... what looks like an SD card slot for nav updates, and no CD ripper.
My convertible 2017, V6.
The SD card slot is a data source for GPS, USB and 12V. Also an audio input - AUX.
That's all.
CDs were no longer available in these years.

Maybe a false economy to discontinue CD drives? I've recently learned CDs are making a sales comeback as people want to own music instead of renting from Spotify, etc.
I wish my 2020 F-Type had a CD drive. Seems unlikely I'm alone among Jag owners in having a sizable disc collection.

Lossless rip to USB is the way to go! That way you keep your CDs in perfect condition and can enjoy them at home on a decent system.

Well, my 2017 has the CD, but sure wish it had the SD card slot so I could do the NAV updates!!!

Yes, I've done that; works great. But I own many more CDs than I care to rip, and I like being able to just grab one I want to hear on a drive.
So, I just spent $80 on Amazon for a USB portable CD player that explicitly says it's Jaguar-compatible and can be controlled from the steering wheel buttons: ENVYCLOUD Portable Car CD Player.
It’s for playing videos from your phone. They eliminated that probably because the resolution on an iPhone is higher/better than that screen.
Phone screens have been higher res than infotainment screens since way before the F-Type though. Video output is still gonna be 1080p or 4k in general though.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the actual native resolution of the 8" and 10" screens is?
Out of curiosity I finally tested the HDMI port by hooking up a Chromebook to it. As expected, HDMI appears as another media source and once selected it displays the output from the Chromebook which treats the car system as an external screen. I guess it also feeds any audio through to the car. Pretty pointless but nice to see that it works.

This gives me a really crazy idea... but I assume it's not feasible. I'm guessing it doesn't provide feedback to the device so that you can navigate the UI w/ the touch screen, does it?
I didn't test but would be extremely surprised if it worked because as far as I know the HDMI port is just for input into the infotainment and not output of touch screen interactions back to whatever is connected. If that worked the aftermarket Apple CarPlay / Android Auto units would arguably rely on the HDMI port instead of the whole trouble of tapping into the connection between the touchscreen and head unit like my UAD device does.
