Default Click and squeak

Members

Recently I notice this click and squeak noise from my 2019 F300. It can be reproduced easily.

1. Perform test in indoor parking lot, roll down driver/passenger window
2. Perform parking lot maneuver, gradually accelerate above 5km/h
3. A short loud click can be heard coming from the back of the vehicle, possibly from rear wheel ?!
4. A few seconds after the click, a short squeak can be heard from back of vehicle. Sometimes the squeak can cause limited decelerate (choke) of the vehicle (possibly parking brake engagement?)

You can reproduce the issue by doing 2 to 4.

Not sure if vehicle will click if going higher speed due to road noise.

Cheers, TGX.

Being a 2019, sounds like a trip to the dealer is in your future.
Best of luck, share what you find.
BTW, is a F300 a special model of F type ?
Not being a smart a$$, just never heard of that designation before but I am new to jaguars.

I believe its the 4 cylinder turbo model, the 300 referring to the horsepower rating.

Team

Yes, I am planning for a dealership visit. I always wanted to troubleshoot and provide the best symptoms.

Sorry for the typo. It's a P300. aka base model. Today I did more troubleshooting, here is what I come up with.

1. Perform test in indoor parking lot, roll down driver/passenger window
2. Start car, I now can reproduce the click and squeak noise standing still
3. Turn off AC, make sure there is nothing to do with compressor
4. Gas to 1000 rpm, within couple of seconds you will hear a click from back of vehicle and then followed by a squeak from the same area
5. Tried enable and disable the switchable active exhaust, same result

It sounded like coming from underneath, what click and squeak at back of vehicle near muffler?

Cheers. TGX

You believe right, but the 300 is a PS rating, not real HP (except maybe in the US).

OK People.

There is one thing that clicks at the back of the vehicle.

The vacuum pump solenoid,

https://www.jaguarparts.com/oem-part...w0LWdhcw%3D%3D

Anyone know about the operation of this part ?

RPM reaches 1200, you will immediately hear a click noise
RPM drops back to 1000, you will hear the squeak.

Guys, I am still puzzled. Shop appointment 17 August.

Yes, squeaky valves and noisy pump - I’ve lived with those for a few years, after warranty expired. At idle, the valves open and close quite a bit, and with the top down, are annoying. You can pull fuse F43 (passenger footwell fuse box) to kill the pump and have valves open all the time.

If you’re in warranty, you need a new exhaust as the valves aren’t replaceable. They can also remove the pump and run a vacuum line back from the engine.

I installed a wireless relay to connect/disconnect F43, so I can have the valves open all the time when I want (don’t have switchable active exhaust).

Hi All,

I think I have the exact same problem on my P300 from 2019. I just received it last week and had my first long trip this weekend. I do hear some clicking/ticking/squeaking metallic noises at the back just like @tgx.trf . I thought they were transmission noises, but I guess it can also be due to the change of rev speed activating valves. It happens with active exhaust button activated, So valves are supposed to be opened all the time, aren't they? I didn't try to remove the fuse yet, I'll give it a go this week. But faulty exhaust system would explain why I still didn't hear any "popcorn" cooking in my back yet.

@DJS , could you give us more details? I want to be fully armed if I ask my dealer to replace the exhaust. It's still under warranty, but I suspect the dealer won't be very keen on replacing a full line "for free" a few weeks after selling the car.

Cheers

I read somewhere recently that the valves are only open all the time in dynamic mode (leave the button alone!). In non-dynamic (with the button on) the valves open at much lower revs (1500?) but are not open all the time. So if you're experiencing the clicking in dynamic it ain't the valves, but in non-dynamic with the button it could be.

That would make sense. I'll keep that in mind next time I ride and try to confirm your sayings. Oh well, you just gave me an excuse to jump in the car. God bless teleworking.

I was under the impression that they improved the exhaust valves (new or better bearings) to eliminate this issue. And they got ride of the electric vacuum pump (in 2016?).

In Dynamic mode, the valves open on demand (when you put your foot down). They still flutter at low RPMs. Switchable active exhaust would leave them open all the time, as does removing F43 on MY14-15.

I went for a short ride this evening, and it seems that indeed, in dynamic mode, no weird noise, hence valves opened all the time. I tried to switch the active exhaust a few times in comfort mode, but I couldn’t really see a difference in the revs at which the sound occurs. On or off, it’s around 1500rpm. To be continued.

Anyway, I should service soon, I’ll ask the guys then.

Had a quick run at my dealer, the mechanic heard the noise and stated it was totally normal. My service is planned in 2 weeks, I'll ask them to grease the valves if they can to reduce the noise. To be honest, it's just loud enough to be annoying, even my wife noticed, and she usually is not very careful for this kind of stuff.
