Default Coat hook behind seat?

What is the lump in the trim behind both seats in my 2015 convertible. It looks like a coat hanger hook? Matches with a recess in the back of the seat?
Can I remove it? I guess that will leave holes in the trim it is mounted to?

At 6'6" I am keen to have the seat as far back as possible, but when I do there are terrible rubbing noises and I think it is this piece rubbing on the seat back. Never going to be hanging a jacket back there while I am driving, unless I want it badly ironed.
Maybe I can just cover it in some alcantara or something, eliminate the rubbing?

I need to dismantle that trim soon enough, want Android Auto and need to fix my cracked hoop trim, so I guess I'll be seeing for myself how to remove it/them, just trying to get as prepared as possible.

On the convertible, the only way to remove it is to go caveman. A Dremel should do the job.

And, yes, it is a coat hook.

Thanks for the info.
I have jammed a piece of cloth between them for now. Hopefully that works until I am removing that panel for the hifi upgrades.

Yes once you remove the rear panel you'll see three screws on each coat hook that you can remove from the back and then the coat hook comes off you will have three holes in a triangular pattern but I don't mind it since the seat is covering it anyway.

I think there was a recent thread where that coat hooked destroyed the back of someone’s seat because of constant rubbing like that, if I’m not mistaken.

One good reason to be 5’ 10” (and shrinking). Did my usual 930 mile drive yesterday to the Midwest (for nephew’s wedding.). My shirts, jacket and slacks fit perfectly behind the driver’s seat with my normal seat position.

SOLVED
As BTK44 said above, on my convertible, once the back panel is removed, the hooks were held on by two screws each. Easily removed, screw holes remain, but will be behind seats.
Hoping for no more creaking from now on.

the back of my seat is broken by the coat hook, I was surprised by the poor design. You would think they would make it fold away so the seat doesn't hit it.

You have to remove both rollover hoops then the entire rear plastic panel then you can get behind that panel and unscrew the two screws per hook to have them not be there anymore.

I'm down to 5'11" from 6', but the real advantage is not having clothes that need to be coddled.

Once you know how, it isn't difficult, except for the #^*&@ speaker grilles.

Remove the grilles by pushing the retaining clips. Unbolt the roll hoops (4 bolts each side) Pull the shoulder belt covers off. Remove the 2 'buttons' in the center storage cubby.

Then with a helper, lift both sides at once, straight up.

+++++++++++++

Remember: The first time is to learn, the second time is for practice, the third time is to get it right!

No specific procedure just for that back deck trim, but it's covered in the overall top removal, check steps 6-9 for pretty half color pictures showing what you are getting at. Blue is the part you're moving, purple is fasteners, yellow means you just move it out of the way in that step, not remove it.
