Concerned about reliability of my 2016 F-type R awd
I just got my car less than a month ago and it started having issues. I took it to one dealership because I kept getting an adaptive dynamic error message. I suspected it was the battery but the dealership said the battery was fine. I get it back and a few days later the message pops up again. My navigation was showing I was in a completely different location also so I had to get that fixed. I brought it to a different dealer and they told me the battery needed to be replaced. They replaced the battery but it’s been TWO WEEKS since I got my car back because they can’t figure out what’s wrong with the navigation!!! Should I just contact the dealer I bought the car from to buy back the car or should I just remain calm? I love this car but I’m not looking to pay for an unreliable money pit.
Sounds like you've had two minor issues and the dealer hasn't been able to figure them out. The dealers incompetence shouldn't be a consideration in the overall reliability of the car. My guess is your NAV problem has been like that since day one, and the previous owner never used it. The adaptive dynamic error is a different story, and a proper dealership should be able to diagnose that easily given there's a trouble code saved (which there should be). What did they replace the first time around?
They’re testing wires in the infotainment system to see if that fixes the issue. I don’t see how it would but that’s the update. Apparently they had to escalate the problem to a tech at the Jaguar head quarters. I don’t see how it’s so difficult to fix it.
one problem (navigation) does not a lemon make; I'd relax and let them deal with the one remaining issue. The battery is a minor thing and was a problem when you got the car but the first dealer just misdiagnosed it; the batteries on these cars are very tempermental due to high demand, and funky charging system logic. To combat any issues, I used a maintenance charger on my F type at all times - if the car was parked in the garage, the charger was plugged in. When I first got my car I had the dynamic system error a couple of times, after replacing the battery (and using a charger to ensure it never gets low again), I didn't have a reoccurance.
my 2016 S awd has been the most unreliable car I've ever owned along with my friends and family. In the Year I've owned it it has had close $50,000 in warranty work done to it. thank G-D its a CPO but It was a car driven by a 70 year old lady that had 12k miles on it when I bought it. I'm know at 27k and my car is currently at the dealer getting its 6th exhaust system and 5th Catalytic convertor. a month ago I brought the car in for a camshaft error code, turns out car has barely any oil in it but the sensor was broken and telling me it was fine. The Convertible top broke. The infotainment and audio system has had issues. Thermostat went bad, multiple coolant leaks, not to mention many bad panel gaps. I love the F-type but its by far the worst car I've ever owned . I'm currently trying to get the dealer to buy it back. If your car isn't covered under warranty I'd run, and thats coming from someone who loves everything about how the f-type looks, sounds, and drives. Not the quality you expect for a $100,000 car. Good luck OP
Presuming your purchase included CPO warranty, I would return it to the dealer, take their loaner and use the loaner until it was fixed. On pickup, have the service rep show you that the items have been addressed.
Pls keep us posted, eventually you'll love the car as most of us do.

As someone who has had to deal with so many issues its hard to fall in love with this car, I do love mine and I bet the OP does too but nothing ruins the experience like knowing that every week you'll have some sort of issue. Especially the same one 6 times...

I would be a lot more frustrated with my F-type if it was the only car I had to drive. I had multiple clutches, transmission replaced, differential replaced, exhaust replaced, side windows and seals replaced, fuel filler neck replaced, O2 sensor replaced just to name some things. By now, it spent well over 100 days since new in the shop.
However, one issue is too early to conclude your car is a lemon.

Man, I miss dipsticks......sometimes simpler is better.

Me too man me too, just got a call from my dealer 3 minutes ago, car is getting a new engine and exhaust put in, yes a whole *** engine... Guess i'm stuck with this F-Pace for a few more weeks.
sorry about that man, I'm a minority for sure but if you drive your car spirited you should know about my experience.
Must be bad luck of the draw. 30+k miles on my engine that sees 20 psi of boost every time I drive it. Never an issue, but I do keep an eye on all the fluid levels. Regarding a dipstick, I’m working on developing a flexible dipstick constructed similar to an old fashioned speedometer cable that would fit down the oil suction tube. I’m using one on my MINI.

Watching with interest.
That said I don't like your chances of success, just too many bends in that suction tube!

I’m in the middle of a massive kitchen remodel, so nothing happening soon. The paramount sc heat exchanger is still sitting on the workbench and I still need to get a machine shop to convert the OEM shifter into a short shifter. The original short shifter fabricator has discontinued production (insufficient demand) and we have a couple forum members that need one.
As long as the bends are not too sharp, my dipstick concept should work.

No real sharp bends (around 90 degrees max) but a helluva lot of 'em, especially down the bottom end where it would get a bit difficult to push it through:
Nothing to be scared of... There are more people driving around without problems than that have problems with their F-Type's. Generally, people who don't have problems, aren't posting on technical forums.

Except those of us who are posting to say we aren't having problems.
I've had 4 Jaguars (2001 XK8, 2004 XKR, 2010 XKR and the current F-Type) and have found them to be no less reliable than other cars I've had. When I got the XK8 I kept my ultra reliable Nissan Almera "just in case", and have hardly used it since. The old stories of Jaguar unreliability are just that - old.
