Convertible drains, electronics, and ease of entry - some observations
Thanks to reviews from @DJS and others, I installed the mods4cars convertible smart-top module which allows me to open and close the top using the key fob from afar. Also disables auto start-stop and enables dynamic mode without needing to pull fuses or push the console button. For a disabled driver or passenger who can't get into the car easily (or at all) when the top is up, this is a game changer!
During this install, it forced me to check out the electrical connections, drains, and structural mechanisms of the convertible top. The wiring is relatively exposed and covered only by a plastic cover that is not waterproof. The drains are not vented, thus drain slowly. Of note they drain in 2 different places on each side. After a thorough clean-out, including removal of leaves and a spider (sorry, guy), I poured a cup of water into each side to see where it ended up. The water was still draining after 5 minutes. I concluded that during a deluge of rain there is no way these drains would keep up, and the electronics would be submerged. Unfortunately drains in cars are destined to be clogged up resulting in problems no matter what the brand. If you own the convertible I would keep it covered from the rain and use minimal spray on the top and trunk area when washing.
With the top up during a deluge (rain or wash) and the drains clogged - the water will spill over into the electronics compartment, kind of like how the Titanic sank.
However I think even the open/clean drains may not keep up with a serious downpour and the car stationary. Not willing to test it out!
@JagCode3 where exactly in the convertible does that module get installed? How are you liking it so far? I'm curious because my wife is disabled and being able to take the top down before she arrives at the car would be great, thanks!
