Default Convertible mesh wind blocker works well...?

Need current convertible owners' opinion on this.

I picked up my 2017 convertible on late Sat afternoon, at out of state dealership. Dealer says their derive dept techs aren't avail to install the factory mesh wind blocker, that I need to have my local Jag dealer install during the week. They even offered to pay an hour's time for it.

However, I've been driving around with vert down for past few days, & haven't felt that there's much wind nor wind noise. So wondering if it's worth even going thru the effort to have the factory mesh wind blocker even installed, since I don't want to mess with the clean look & possibly visibility to the rear.

Thoughts...?

I noticed a difference with it installed. It’s really easy to install, you could do it yourself.

I like it. It does reduce visibility a bit via the rear-view mirror. Very easy to remove and replace, once you have the brackets installed.

Anyone can put in or remove. Go look at Windrestrictor first, clear! Everyone that has it raves about it, this is my second car to have it.

Hmm. I may be one of the few people that couldn't really tell a difference with it in or out. Wound up leaving it out since I think the car looks better. I also looked into Windrestrictor but never pulled the trigger on it. I think wind and noise is something I just figured is part of the convertible experience! Atleast it's quieter and less windy than my '95 Wrangler!

By all means install it. It is easy. You need a torx screwdriver(25?). Follow directions to remove small chrome insert. Pull the bottom edge out with a guitar pick and slide down. It comes right off. Position the bracket and screw in two captured torx screws on each side. Pop the tops and slide in screen. Make sure to only push down at edges and snap top in at both sides. This thing works great. At 95 mph with the top down, windows up, there is no draft. Very little affect on viz and at night, it seriously cut down on glare. I was going to put in a plastic screen but why bother. This is perfect as it is.

the screen is worth installing if your doing top down highway speeds, but it makes using the center mirror at night somewhat difficult.

Someone on this forum had a piece of tempered glass cut to shape that slides into the OEM brackets. Worked extremely well as a windscreen, did not vibrate and offered full visibility. If I had the vert, that's what I would do.

I took mine off, as I like maximum wind all the time. I very occasionally install it for long road trips and it does work well with windows up.

I don't understand what is there to install, it is two clips.

If you didn’t buy it installed, the clips are not there, just a chrome piece.

That was me... took the mesh screen to a local glass shop and they traced it for a template. About $120 - better than mesh at night, and plexiglass because it doesn’t shake/wiggle.

Great idea.
I didn't want to use the factory mesh WindBlocker since I didn't want to cut down visibility, & also didn't want to spend another $350 for a WindRestrictor.
I'll check out local shops for tempered glass...

Personally, I like it! Yes, there's a small loss of visibility at night but it also helps to reduce the headlight glare from SUVs and trucks behind me.

The downside is that it makes it hard to tell if it's a regular car in the distance behind you, or a trooper. Sometimes, that's good to know...

+1. I've had that fear several times. But came to the conclusion that if I can see him behind me it's likely already too late

That is true but that's also why I have the Passport Escort 360 radar detector which has saved me many times!

My wife ran off with a cop a few weeks ago.
So if I see flashing lights behind me, I'll floor the gas pedal to get away, afraid he wants to chase me down to give her back...
