coolant leak! lots of it!
Hi All,
My pride and joy is causing me a few headaches at the moment. Today's drama is i found around a load of coolant my driveway this morning - underneath the front of the car (took 1 liter to top it up). It was serviced a few days ago at a main dealer so a bit suspicious one of the technicians may have done something wrong.
Anyway took the car for a short drive after topping up the coolant and I popped the bonnet. I can clearly see coolant coming out the top of the expansion tank (where you fill it up).
Is this as simple as a replacement expansion tank cap or is this likely something more serious / take it straight back to the dealer?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks very much
Dan

I kept an eye on the engine temp as I took it for a drive and it was as normal in the middle of the gauge .
my novice line of thinking is the pressure mechanism in the cap is broke..
any advice much appreciated

Not such a novice notion: it can happen. Could also be damage to the seal in the cap or the top of the tank that meets the seal.
There is a service bulletin addressing the coolant reservoir and cap: JTB00518NAS5
It involves measuring and inspecting the opening to the coolant reservoir and replacing the cap, reservoir or both.

In addition to the above advice, it's worth checking that the expansion cap is tight.
When all is cold, unscrew the expansion cap, then tighten until it clicks three times..
This advice also came from a TSB

If the vehicle is still under the JLR warranty, a dealership Technician should verify the coolant temperature via the OBD port to ensure the engine isn't overheating due to a sticking or stuck thermostat.

Thanks All,
Just to update on this - seems the cap was knackered!
The new cap clicks as Paul mentions. The old cap just went loose when turned too far.
All sorted - thanks again
