I have heated seats only. Wondering if anyone has the cooled and how they are. Also, is there any way to have the cooled option installed?

 

I have air conditioned seats. Priceless.
It makes longer periods in the car better than being at home.

And this is coming from someone who doesnt care for or even have air conditioning in some of my cars. I rarely turn it on in my truck, and in my vintage cruiser I dont have it, nor miss it.

Never realized how a hot seat is what makes certain trips uncomfortable.
Now I can do with just the cooled seats and not even have the air blowing on my face.

I think you could do it, but you would need perforated leather installed.

 

There was no "cooled seats" option made available until the 2018 models so there is not a "kit" available to be acquired from anywhere. However, if the 2018s now have it, perhaps you could figure out a way to remove the 2017 seats from your vehicle and replace them en mass with one of the new sets of seats. it would not be cheap but trying to re-cover a factory seat AND improvise some type of cooling solution design that has never previously existed would take voluminous time & $'s as well.

 

Yes I suppose it would be very difficult because in addition to air conditioning, vents in the seats, ductwork, you would also need a way to control the temperature.

One option you could consider.
To have a upholster install perforated leather on just the back.
And install a fan in the seat.

My seats have a fan, and you cant really hear it.
The back is what feels divine.
The thighs are also great, but decadence.

 

I think you may have missed my point just a bit. The 2017 model that he has does not have a cooling option so... the ONLY way he would even be able to "retrofit" it would be by obtaining newer components like a 2018 or 2019 fan blower (as a fan blower from 2017 does not exist), wiring and controls you have in your newer vehicle plus the perforated leather seating so it's not as simple as just getting a fan and leather work. It would be far more extensive. Potentially possible but at what price, $5K to $7K?

 

Must be a matter of taste. I had them in my second Xf and wasnt really a fan. It felt like a hooker was blowing on the back of my legs, it was really disconcerting. That said I'm sure it would help to cool down the seats if the car had been siting in the sun for a long time.

 

Had them in my XF SC as well. I liked them but I never where shorts. The ladies found them disconcerting; I think the chill in certain areas was too much.

 

My wife had them in her CTS-V. Worked great. The main drawback (in her opinion) was that they tended to quickly distribute digested burrito aroma throughout the cabin when I was driving.

 

I have a MY17 400s convertible.........and it does have cooled seats

They work with lots of upholstery shops nationwide. And sell parts individually.


So my calculation was that an upholster could replace just the backrest; which is often done just to change colors on Jaguar seats, add the universal hardware, and it might not be that much.


I believe they would vented seats as opposed to air conditioned

 

Around here folks pay a $130k for that privilege.


Did you not have them on your XK. There is no air blowing, even on a cool day where the seat gets hot from body heat, it just makes that nonexistant. it feels like sitting on a marble.


Also increases fuel economy.

 

Apparently that's what they pay in New York as well.

 

That's one thing I miss from by Vette was the "ventilated" seats. Not "cooled" seats, since the seats doesn't generate AC cold air, the fans in the seats just blows ambient air thru the seat perforations. I have to turn on the AC to the footwell to get more cold air flowing thru.

My '17 F type only has heated seats, but no cooled nor ventilated seats.
Not too useful in hot Houston...

Hmmm. I thought the heated and cooled seats were standard in 2015 on the XK and optional performance seats gave you all the bells and whistles. Here is the write up from USN: https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/jaguar/xk/interior. Seems if you could find the correct seats they come with all the parts except vents or ducts. Then there is the issue of the software upgrade and switches to turn them on/off. It seems like Jag would have only made one wiring harness and just not used the connections for those seats without. I had heated/cooled in infiniti M35x, they worked fine, but leave them on and cool yourself off too much and you will catch a cold from the cold air on your body. You get a chill up your spine. Just MHOP.

There were no 2017 400s here in the USA where the OP is located. Since you can buy a 2018 model in March of 2017, is it possible that yours is actually an '18? Even this "first drive" article references them as arriving as 2018 models. Here is what they say about the new 2018 seats...

Of course, they’re 12-way power-adjustable including lumbar support. The seats are both heated and ventilated. With all that, the new seats still weigh in about 16 pounds less than the old seats. Being in Scotland I believe their 2017s are USA model 2018s
