Default Cost of repairing a dent in side of car (F Type Coupe S), plus scratches?

Hi there

I've got a dent just behind the passenger door that's been done by someone opening their door onto my car in a car park..

I've also got some scratches on the bonnet that someone's probably done by keying me, otherwise it's an animal. It's really bad. We are talking a scratch that's 14 inches inches long and another scratch that's 17 inches.

And I've got some scratches behind the passenger door from being keyed. The dent and getting keyed happened at the same time on the passenger door. It happened in a golf course car park..some real sad and jealous people out there...anyway..

I could also get the wheels done to look as good as new apparently (some scuffs on them, wear and tear)..

To get all this done I've been quoted just under £2000...

This is a lot more than I was expecting. I was expecting to get quoted half that. Obviously I want it to get done properly and as soon as possible, but I'm making sure they aren't taking the **** with the quote. This seems like a good place to ask

I would appreciate some feedback from an expert or anyone familiar with this sort of thing. Thanks a lot

The dent could be removed by pdr. Get a guy who has been aluminum trained. Should be about 100 quid. The scratched would depend on the depth and whether they got down to the paint.

Mean people suck. People that ding other's doors are selfish and inconsiderate and they deserve everything they get. Sounds like the entire bonnet will need repainting.

Did the scratches remove the paint to bare metal? If so maybe that's the reason for high cost, requiring re sprayed paint. If not the scratches may be buffed out. I've done it myself on my other cars with a random orbital polisher and some mild polishing compund to start. As buckingham mentioned, depending on the dent, paintless dent repair (PDR) may be possible, but I don't have experience with having it done on aluminum. The $100 USD is a starting point for PDR. I had one dent removed in a difficult spot on my XF for about $100. I'd find out what exactly is being done for the quoted money and why. Sorry to hear your car was damaged by vandals. Good luck. Report back when you get some info.

I was wondering if the car park has any security cameras in the area that could identify the losers that did the damage.

Sorry to hear of this happening.

The scratches removed paint to bare metal on the side, but not on the bonnet.

Sadly not.

I agree and hopefully not as I was told the bonnet scratches weren't deep.

My brother owns his own PDR business & is capable of both but is here in the States. Aluminum PDR work is significantly more difficult than steel. As such, he charges about $300 USD for aluminum door dings and about 1/2 that for all others

without seeing pics; the price sounds like what I'd expect. Ditto on trying the PDR first even if you need paint work elsewhere.

Steel remembers its original shape. So, a few pushes in the right places and it pops into its original shaped. I have seen this done many times. Aluminum has no memory so the pdr guy has to painstakingly bend it into shape. It takes a while. Why it costs twice as much. Sometimes they have to heat it up to specific temperature to soften it. But too hot and the paint shatters or the aluminum melts.
