Angry Cracked windshield after Oil Change Service

So I took my SVR to the local JLR dealer for its first oil change. When I picked it up it hand a long crack in the windshield, easily over a foot long (looked like from a rock chip) and 4 to 5 miles were added to the odometer.

Service Mgr promptly took care of the situation and ordered a new windshield for free of course. The 4 to 5 miles still bothers me though. Would a simple oil change require the tech to drive that far?

I can see 1 or 2 miles maybe, but 4 to 5 seems a bit much, no? (I can't help but think of Ferris Bueller's Day Off - the Ferrari valet scene. )

Am I over thinking this? Thoughts?

Do you have the Jag Remote app installed on your phone. At least you could see where they went. When my annual service (oil change, brake fluid flush/replacement, whatever else) was done last Monday, they took it on a 2.4 mile/11 min. roundtrip test drive. 5 miles doesn't seem out of the question.

4 miles to warm her up. 1 mile to "test" the speedometer and be sure it reads correctly to 186mph.

Cracked windshield is very annoying and you are right to be bothered. Having 5 miles on the odometer... who cares? The car is good for at least 150,000.

Hopefully not, the Jaguar remote app as mentioned can show route travelled, if route logging has been enabled by the owner, it will also show average speed and journey fuel consumption, unfortunately it doesn't log maximum speed or lateral and longitudinal g

All good pts and some funny ones. I've had issues trying to load the Jag InControl apps. Dealer was going to help me but I never got around to it. I gotta get that done.

I actually don't mind the few miles they put on it....its more of how they put those miles on. Getting on the hwy and driving behind an 18 wheeler, for example, while rocks are chipping my windshield and perhaps paint makes me uneasy.

Oh well. I guess I'm being over protective of her.

Check your wheels for for bends or cracks, easy to do at good tire shop's balancing machine.
Hitting a pothole good enough can also crack a windshield.
