Default Windshield cracked

Any one had to replace a windshield? Any idea of the cost at the dealer?

Factory windshield at the dealer will probably cost you $750-$800. I don't know of any dealer that does the work themselves but sublets the work out but supplies the factory part. Aftermarket windshields would probably cost you about 2/3rds of that price.

Cool 2006 XKR windshield replacement

Will installing a aftermarket windshield w/o the rain or light sensor cause my cat on board computer to instantaneously explode and display the dreaded Service light? I learned how to turn on car wipers when I was 2 and I can also tell when it gets dark outside, usually around the time I see the sun disappear

Our Jag dealer likes to work in repair bills that are in the $700 it seems for anything you bring your car in for. My Select Edition warranty covered the airbag harness in the driver seat in the morning and by lunchtime, that story had changed.

Still like my car though.

Would like to save $500 on a piece of glass not made by Swarovski.

Thanks in advance,

Marcel Lange

I think any windshield repair shop can install rain sensors these days.

I'm more concerned if they'll do all the rubber and chrome molding right.

Default Windshield

What year is your Jag? I just went through this and it was an ordeal, but not that expensive. My insurance company sent me through Safelite. They did a very good job and I'd recommend them.

The issue was that I have a 2004 and the original glass has a heating element in the bottom section where the windshield wipers are. It took 4 different deliveries and a dozen phone calls to dealers in US, Canada and the UK, but we finally determined that the Jaguar had issues with the original glass chipping and breaking. They superceded this part with glass from a 2005 and later the comes WITHOUT the heating element.

So I lost that functionality. However, the rain sensor is really mounted inside the car with this little clear gel pack attaching it to the windshield. They reconnected it and it works fine. Even installed the lower trim the pretty much gets destroyed when you take out the glass. Total cash payment was about $525USD.

Good luck.

Default It's a 2006 XKR convertible and I have the Jag rain sensor which I bought online

Can get an aftermarket installed for $275 vs. $761 for the 'official' version
