Default cracking, popping noises

I pulled into my garage after a 35 minute drive home from work today (@30-60 mph) and shut off the engine. I then heard crackling and popping-like noise from the rear underside of the car for several minutes. After doing a search for crackling, popping noise, etc. on the forum, I'm not coming up with anything. I thought I had read that catalytic converter going bad may make noise, but not finding this issue. Any thoughts as to what these noises may be?

If you can get a video with sound, that would help. Normally, you could hear some crackling and/or popping (depending how you interpret it) from the exhaust and heat shields cooling down.

I have a video that I tried to upload but am getting message that .mp4 file not accepted type? It could be heat shield cooling, but I've never heard it before yesterday.

Good morning Vince.

Like a few others here, mahjik is always a voice of “reason” but if it makes you feel any better, I too have heard, let’s just say, “noises” after a drive and parking the car in my garage. It’s not something which is constant or even often (I’d say rarely) but I just took it to mean the car was letting me know “it” was satisfied with the outing. Whatever the f&^*% that means.

Have a great day, as I know you will.

you could upload that video from your phone to youtube and then link the youtube video here

the good news is that this thread follows the "Jaguarforums.com Rule of Thirds." 1/3 of posts are about noise the car makes when it shouldn't, a 1/3 are about noise the car doesn't make when it should, and 1/3 are about how to check the oil level!

Jay's car getting home is a bit like an SR-71 after landing. Both seem to have a top speed of around Mach 3...

Another vote for things cooling down and contracting "noisily". Everything about the F-Type is NOISE.

I've pretty much concluded that's it is part of the cooling down. The change is that I now can drive my car directly into my garage without having to open the barn doors of my old garage and I have lots of space around it. I can auto close the door while still in the car and I think the sound is much more pronounced than maybe I would have noticed under my previous parking situation.

Another crisis averted Thanks for all the input everyone.
