Dealer Car Purchase Tips
Hi guys,
I am about to join your community - I would like to purchase a fairly new f-type P340 (MY2018) from the dealer in Germany (7 months old, 7 000 km). Do you have any tips what I should check - in relation to the technical condition of the car, its former use, background, etc. Since I need to travel few hours to Germany, it will be one time shot "buy-or-not".
I was also told that it is subject to the "Jaguar Approved" warranty, thus, there should be some degree of security - do you have experience with such service and its limits?
In addition, Jaguar Care - some experience there?
And overall, I read various comments on the technical quality (as with all cars...) - do you have some remarks in relation to such particular MY/type?
Thank you very much for sharing your ideas!!

If the car is under warranty, I dont think you have to worry about anything because Jaguar Factory warranty will cover you for 5 years since the date of purchase (atleast here in the US). So you definitely covered for incase anything goes bad. You might want to check if the car has aftermarket tune or parts installed, but since you are buying it from the Jag dealer, it is very unlikely. I dont know what the Jaguar Approved Warranty means. Ask them if they are providing the extended warranty for the car. But I wouldn't worry too much since the car is 7 months old.
You can ask the dealership and they can provide you with something like a CARFAX report which will let you know about all the records about the car. Also make sure the car has a clean title.
Also ask them if the warranty will work in the country you live. Get them show you some form of document about the warranty stuff and read the fine prints. Not sure how Jaguar warranty works cross countries,
I bought a second hand (1 year old, 7.000 km MY15) F-type R almost 3 years ago in Germany, and I am from Norway. The EU warranty is (or at least was) 3 years from 1. reg. date, and is valid across borders.
Check tires (rear) and brake discs as they might give a clue to how hard the car has been driven.
Mine had no signs of wear at all after 7.000 km, and being a rwd R, that implied it had been driven very sedate (preowned by an older gentleman high up in the administration dept in JLR Germany (CEO). And yes - it still had the original rear tires on 😉 The car could easilly been mistaken for a brand new one.

That doesn't work in Europe - especially Germany. Privacy Laws are a lot more strict than they are in the US, therefore there's no public car databases. Nothing like the CARFAX mentioned above exists here.
However, consumer protection laws are also a lot more strict - if the dealership confirms (in writing) that the car hasn't been in an accident they're liable for that statement. If you should discover at some point in the future that that wasn't the case, you can simply return the car.
The warranty works like Arne described. Since you're taking it to a EU country you don't have to worry about crossing a border; the 3-year Jaguar warranty applies everywhere.
The Jaguar Approved Used Car warranty is a little more complicated. Usually this runs for an additional two years after the end of the original new car (3-year) warranty. This warranty contract however is between the buyer and the dealer. If you want to take the car to a different dealer (say in another country) the original seller of the Jaguar Approved warranty has to agree that a different workshop works on the car.
While I didn't take the car to a different country I bought mine about 500km from where I live. Since I don't plan on taking the car back 500km if something should go wrong I discussed this when I bought the car.
I got a simple letter from the dealer that they're fine with a different dealership working on the car, as long as it's an official Jaguar dealership. In your case I'd want something similar.

The dealer is "Auto Bierschneider British Cars GmbH & Co. KG" in Greding. Do you happen to know anything about the dealership?
I wouldn't worry too much. My car was a former demonstrator, so it was driven by multiple people and probably not too gently. On the upside you can be pretty certain that all the maintenance work has been done in a timely fashion so you're probably fine. Mine has worked flawlessly in the last year (well 11 months...) since I've had it.
Sorry, can't help you there...

My car was a dealer demo for the first four months of it's life, I bought it sight unseen when it was 20 months old, and it turned out to be damn near perfect and in near new condition. It became apparent to me that all "problems" (such as the 770W sound system issue) had been fixed while it was a dealer demo, and I haven't had a single issue with it until just now with a busted coolant hose. If you discount the fairly common supercharger coupler / torsion isolator rattle which was supposedly fixed under warranty but is now worse than ever.
