In defense of the Meridian 770..what I heard today
I don't see myself attempting any upgrades to the stock 770W, so, despite it's shortcomings, I'm trying to enjoy it.
First drive since mid February. I didn't check the tone settings and it's still in Meridian mode. I've kept a CD of Steely Dan's Aja in the armrest slot for reference.
Bluetooth to my phone and Spotify renders some iffy results. Paul Young's Every Time You Go Away had a weird mid bass drum in the doors, unsettling.
Black Sabbath Mob Rules sounded decent, surprisingly, up to about 30 in volume. It's ok, I've had better, I'll keep trying. Maybe it's my ears changing.

My experience with the 770w Meridian system was varied, too. The thing that really made a HUGE difference for me was using the digital thumb drive in the center console as a source for my music files -- every other source (XM Radio, etc.) was just so-so. After using the best source, I experimented with the different processers (Dolby, DTS, Meridian, etc.) -- Dolby worked best for me and my music preferences. I've got to admit that after spending some time with the system, I'm really happy with it -- but using the correct source for input is the first step in getting the system to sound good.
Using the included Equalizer in the UAD install let me tune in a decent sound on my system. I am Pandora basically all the time and it sounds pretty good. Still weak in the Bass section, think I will install a separate amp and speaker to fill that in.
I reckon it has a pretty good sound with spotify premium if you dial it up a bit. Sounds awful at lower volume. So if my missus is in the car, I dont bother tuning the stereo on at all.
I recently had the laptop hooked up to the DSP to fiddle with the tune since changing midbass speakers. I put the car into Meridian surround to see what kind of signal the center channel had. It's pretty full, 200 - 20,000 and twice as loud as the door mids. Reminded me of one of my objections to the original setup, the center channel just overwhelms the stereo. I also clicked the sub over to the sub input and the bass just went all muddy. I clicked it back to the door’s mid-bass input combined in Mono and got my clear bumps back. What’s weird is the 770 in the Pace isn’t that bad.
One thing I learned from the Pace is that if you push the “balance” over to the driver’s side a bit it pushes the staging over. Might give that a try. Otherwise, as I remember it, I had the Jag set forward as far as I could to kill the stupid rear mids, the bass up a bunch to get it moved into the doors and the sub turned way down to kill the muddiness.
The system clips at 35 and even with everything I’ve done, doesn’t sound that great at low volume, definitely a “feature” of the Ford amp. Fortunately I never listen to it at low volume. Had it cranked up for “Dreams” this morning. (Rumors, not 5150) Great bass!

The problem with the old F-Type meridian is the lack in the bass note, no sub sound at all. A part of this, the system sound ok. In the new F-Type (2020) there is now a bass reflex hole behind the seats. They also probably changed the cross over and the bass now is ok like in the other JLR sound system.
What's strange is that, for me, turning down the bass and turning up the sub sometimes produces a "tighter" bass sound. Running the balance more towards the front can help. Mind you, most of the adjustments are made while my wife is in the market and I am outside "staying with the car"

Most audiophiles probably know this, but it is important when streaming audio from a source device that the source device volume is MAX. If you have your phone on Vol 1 and the car on 30 it will sound ****, phone on MAX car on 20 will sound much better.
I keep my phone on max volume. After a little more fiddling I realized I never had the volume over 25, not 30
Another thing I tried to look into, does the bass roll off automatically at higher levels? I couldn't really tell with a quick listen. These Eyes by the Guess Who was the test track, for comparison.

If you want better quality, ignore the direct Bluetooth connection to the car, instead connect to a USB Bluetooth adaptor that plugs into the Aux in the center console. Much better audio quality, unseen and out of the way. Unfortunately it's $40.

It's funny. I'm getting new genuine Jaguar wheels mounted up on Monday. Not cheap. But I see $40 and have to think twice.
There was a TSB released in February 2017 (attached) which improved the quality of the audio in the coupe even though it was supposedly targetted at addressing a tweeter buzzing issue. I was able to get my dealership to apply it while under warranty and it did make a noticeable difference. If I recall the backstory correctly, JLR didn't tune the audio applifier configuration to match the significantly different sound environment in the coupe and this TSP address that issue.
Just looked at "build my Jag" website.
The number of options on the 75 models are reduced.
Specifically, it appears the 770W is not even an upgrade option.
It looks like all 75 models only come with the 380W system,

Correct, the Meridian Surround is not an option in "Build your own".
However, you can get the 770W surround if you work with your dealer.
My dealer (Wilmington, DE) worked with the HQ and factory and made it happen.
I now have 2024 R75 with the Meridian Surround.
