From the videos I watched, all of that extra stuff isn't used. You just plug in the existing Jaguar stuff after doing the board swap.

I would assume that the factory mic and the factory GPS wires are in the factory loom and plugs. So those extra connectors + GPS + mic are for cars without.

so exciting

thanks again guys for being the early adopters

this is going to be huge for this platform

edit! yep i hope we don't have to fit all the external peripherals

the gloss black bezel looks great, will match perfectly with interior - jag switched to a matte black bezel on the oe 10"

I wouldn't get too excited just yet Dom as I suspect they don't do a RHD version and it's unlikely they would ever get enough demand to justify doing one.
One example - I have been looking for a RHD dashmat for the F-Type for well over two years now, and still no such animal.

Does anyone know if the MY16 770w unit is a resistive Bosch?

I'm definitely curious and would be interested in a group buy depending on the review. The only other thing I'd like to know is if it has a display for the parking sensors. The videos appear to have a button for them but I'd want to get confirmation.

Actually it's only capacitive touchscreens in the F-Type.

The very first IAM2.1's had a resistive screen, but only in the XF to 2013MY, XJ to 2013MY (also the Land Rovers, but again 2014MY was the changeover to capacitive).

OK, Story time.....

First:
Install was going great, no problems, easy to do, I have taken apart the dash before when I installed the Carbon Fiber center, no problem. I also work often with electronics for reverse engineering and such, so I am fairly competent, and I have a background in car audio installs from before I went into Security Engineering.....

Now:
I finished pulling the two boards from the original head unit with no issue, I put them into the new casing, and with the ribbon cable supplied by the retrofit unit, I made the connection marrying the factory board to the overlay unit. I placed the head unit on the center, ran all the cables, plugged in the battery to the car, and started the car. Immediately the screen did not come on..... I disconnected the unit and put it on the bench to check it. After separating the case, I noticed the ribbon cable was split around pin 4 or 5 on the cable, further inspection showed that the pin was actually separated.. Fearing that it was my fault due to one handing the cable while videoing with the other.... I decided to quickly pull the cable from the original head unit and replace it. NOTE: the ribbon that comes with the retrofit unit has a tamper proof seal that I had to break to do the replacement....

Using the cable from the factory head unit, i counted the pins, and checked the temperature rating of the cable, the factory unit ribbon cable actually seemed more flexible and had a higher temp rating, with the same 60v electrical rating, so I decided to use it.

I go inside the house to a very well lite area, and re-marry the device and check several times to make sure I did not split the cable... After some additional jerry rigging and further checking that I did not split the cable, I go back to the car. I connected the unit to power, and immediately saw some smoke out of the top left corner.... NOT GOOD.... I disconnect it, smell burnt plastic and fear the worst.. After gathering my composure and stopping with the expletives.... I take it back inside, open it up and now the second ribbon cable is split... after careful inspection I see the split is actually due what appears the ping and cable becoming to hot and actually melting through the plastic.... I go back to the original cable and examine the pin with a 10x loupe and quickly see that the pin actually has a scorch mark.

So here I am, two broken ribbon cables, no idea how it happened, and now I am also out a head unit... I am going to source some additional ribbon cables to do some additional checks... Waiting on Amazon prime at this point...

Want to point out rickw is a stand up guy and sent me a PM immediately and we spent about 30mins on the phone together. I did the unboxing video but have not yet installed the unit.

Not quite sure what happened, but comparing the ribbon cables that came with the Merryway unit for some reason mine was sent with a higher rated 105c cable and his was sent with an 80c cable. I'm not convinced it's entirely the ribbon cables fault as he reported the same failure with the OEM 105c cable. However, i'm also going to attempt the install and see what happens either tomorrow or this coming Saturday, and deduce if it's a single fault or definitely an engineering problem with the screen itself.

Progress is on the other side of failure!

frostysauce: If your unit was the one tested, chances are it will install with no issues. Still does not reflect well about initial production quality.
