Yes, it was timed.... And no, not the entire event just one run after I put away the Miata... and yes, it was a silly disaster.

Every time I hit power the car went sideways. No control whatsoever, as I cold not keep the rear end in any sort of line. That's pretty true on the street but this was laughable on a course! The time was several second behind the Miata.... and even behind stuff like Camaros (newer models as well as late 90s that have been prepped).

Maybe different tires? Suggestions?

The solution: a V6S - plenty of controllable power!

You have an RWD V8 F-type. It's a wild, uncontrollable car when 100% throttled.

Agree with sov211. I had the same experience in my XKR when a friend spanked me in his WRX which I'll never live down. I got him back when I got the v6S.

Make certain that the engine setting is set to normal rather than dynamic. Much easier to properly modulate the throttle. Too much power is an operator issue,
not a car issue.

Don't ask for more power than the rear end will handle...

I AutoX often and ran a few clinics for people wanting to AutoX their F-Type. AutoX is all about finesse and planning, in some turns actually RWD is better. Tires make a world of difference for these events and the P-Zero and Michelin are far from ideal. As Unhinged suggested, in the Dynamic settings, change the engine tab to Normal and not Dynamic. This makes the accelerator pedal and throttle angle respond in a linear and proportional manner.
You can easily take a stock Camaro. Practice a lot and you will master it. I would start out with the JCNA slalom events to get a good feel for the car.

If you are running PZero tires, then it is no surprise. Get MP4S and you will be able to have more traction. Also make sure you are not over-pressurizing your tires. Last but not least... moderate your throttle application, often less is faster.

Just use the Miata.... Given the choice, why bother with the F-Type? It's not what it was made for (especially RWD). I love autoX but won't bother to even show up in the Jag lol!

Did I hear that correctly? At the 4:00 minute mark did he say the coupe chassis is 80% stiffer than the convertible? Do you convertible folks notice chassis flex? Seems like a significant difference, although perhaps the car is so rigid in either configuration this is not as big a distinction as it seems.

Sure, cause adding 200lbs to an already overweight car is sure to help on the autocross. Put the F type on a diet and take it to a serious track like the big circuit at Willow Springs and I bet he'd have a lot more fun with it.

None whatsoever. I suspect you'd have to get hydraulic press/pull involved to verify such claims.

Me neither. And, I've driven LOTS of 'flexible' convertibles of various eras from the 50's on up.

Nope, no appreciable flex that I can notice... Sometimes a more rigid structure isn't always the best thing without a suspension to back it up. I find that the more stiff you go, the more I hate driving it day to day. If you have a dedicated race car? Make it stiff as hell and put some coilovers on to tune her up!
