Does anyone have experience of changing out the middle section of the door card? I'm looking to replace mine with the "quilted" section. Are they plastic riveted on? Difficult to see in the pictures? Are they interchangeable?
Usually everything in the card is screwed in or clipped in. However, if it is similar to the speaker grill section at the bottom, it is glued on and can't easily be removed. Try gently prying at the edges from the inside and see how it is affixed.
I hope a new card isn't necessary just to replace that section, but I'm afraid it might be unless you are good with fabrication. Also I don't think there is a part number for just that section?
Thanks for the response. I just remembered I have an old doorcard sitting in my garage from my old F-Type. Going to see how easy it is to dissemble. Will update.
I have experience with this, yes. I ordered a set of door cards with white leather inserts with the intention of upgrading my black/white interior. I was able to transfer the door handles without an issue, that was easy. That interior panel? No dice. It's plastic welded and those rivets snap easily. In sum, I gave up on this idea and jsut transferred over the door handles. If you were super-patient and VERY careful, you could drill out each rivet on both panels (original and donor), transfer over the panel, and then use epoxy or another glue to reattach. I finally decided this wasn't worth the effort. FYI.
pic of my new door handles, which look great. I can live without the white-leather door inserts.
