Default Engine update causing quieter exhaust?

I have heard a couple times about dealer engine software updates causing the exhaust system to quiet.

As soon as this Covid situation transitions to hopefully meaning my dealer is open again for oil change,s I need to bring my car in. I am concerned they are going to update the software while doing annual service and cause a change in sound. What is the story here? (2017 SVR)

Note: I have tried the Advanced Search function on the site a couple of times and cannot seem to find anything on this subject?

I have a '20 R and the exhaust is just as obnoxious as was my '15 R. No discernible difference to my ear.

Well, I actually just dropped my 2017 SVR off for its annual service. Should have it back in a day or two, will let you know if I notice anything different.

Hell Cat,

I'd really appreciate knowing what turns out. Specifically if any updates were done and if so if anything changed.

Take care,

Tim

no doubt new cars are getting quieter and emissions higher regulated

the jury is out on whether manufacturers are making older cars quieter - there's no real business case for it, as wltp targets are only for new cars, not previously built cars

There is a Jag remedy for customers (I think its limited to 14-15 MYs due to increasing noise regulations for newer cars) who complain of reduced noise from the software updates, so I think the Jury is in that updated software makers older cars as quiet as newer cars.

What noise has to do with emissions is unknown.

I think its pretty clear Jag mgt is on the bleeding edge of environmental activism. No business case is required since they view it as a moral issue. I am all for making humans more comfortable by suffocating all things green, I just we'd drop the virtual signaling pretense.

But I would caution Jag about mixing business and pleasure as generally a bad idea. Pleasure has no objective measure and becomes a slippery slope since it may or may not increase share holder value. Anecdotally, they lost me as a future, new F customer when they watered the car down. I don't find my 2014 loud enough, it's damn near civilized.

As far as people voicing their opinions, there is no reason to censor people who think a certain way just to stroke prevailing narcissism. We should all be big enough to hear others and allow people to make up their own minds about any issue de jour.

So you are right that none of this makes an ounce of sense.

What is this update and how do I know if I have it? I just got my 2018 F-Type SVR and it sounds great to me.

2018 not affected, most changes were made for 2020MY-
Please let's not make this political. If you think your car is too silent then VelocityAP or others have a solution!

2020 (US designation) F Type R still sounds great.

Got it back yesterday, still as obnoxious as ever. No updates were applied. Hope this helps!
