My pre owned contract is up shortly on my 15 F type. Has anyone experienced an ext warranty plan they would recommend. I currently have 36k miles and discovered jag had replaced the engine with a used one with 7k miles about 9000 miles ago with a previous owner. I find that strange but I have the jag service records.

According to the dealers service records I have

 

Personally I would spend the money on a metal cooling pipes update with coupler, change my oil every 5000 miles,use top tier fuel ,and have $3000 dollars for up keep

 

Add to that list BG44K fuel additive every 6 months and Blackstone analysis every oil change to keep an eye on things.

 

Yes that should keep things in check , make sure no water is entering through the hood vents near the injectors, it's direct injection you cant do small trips and shut the car off ,let it fully warm up

 

Used on warranty is no surprise - whether OEM or 3rd party. Extended warranties are for piece of mind. You certainly can hear stories who where people came out ahead, but statistics are not on your side. The profit margins on warranty contracts run around 50%, so you'd (likely) be better off holding some money on the side. While I'd generally agree with the advice on replacing coolant pipes if you were in there already, but yours may have gotten new ones in the rebuild. (My MY14 is still running on the original ones, but I have an aluminum set on the shelf. The parts are cheap, it's the labor to get to them that's a pain and/or costly.)

been curious about water getting into the engine thru the vents. Is that a major issue. Ie don’t go out in the rain?according to to the records there’s 14k miles on the engine. Just wondered what year model it came from. The fuel additive is new to me. I’ll check it out. Thanks all!!

 

Water through the hood vents is pretty much restricted to the early RWD models, 2013 to 2016, without black pack.
RWD because they had vents mounted further back than AWD vents and without water diverter covers, and non-black pack because they had mesh style vents which allowed more water in vs black pack vents which had horizontal and smaller holes.

 

Yeah, I recently replaced the mesh style vents in my 2016 convertible with the black pack vents which I think look much much better!

 

Pretty sure my 15 f type has the mesh variety. Is it recommended to swap them out?

BTW, if you opt to get an extended warranty, make sure they'll cover a rebuilt engine (in writing). Warranty companies are (in)famous for finding ways to not pay.

 

We have one on our 17 SVR. Exclusionary from our Credit union. 6 years and 60k miles

Used it twice

- Front strut support

- coolant pipe


Both fully covered, never questioned or sent an inspector. Approved and paid all OEM parts. Happy so far

 

I’m of the opinion that one’s use case could/should play into the decision around extended warranties. I think the benefits of having a warranty for a high mileage daily use scenario on a car like this would be more likely to be there compared to a low mileage summer-only use case. For the latter chances are it would be a waste of money.

They are offered/purchased through our credit union (both Achieva & Suncoast) and it is only serviced by Dimmit Jag.

 

Not really. Our is a daily but low miled as it stays local and the truck goes for any long drives (52k miles on a 2017)

Cost was just over $5k for 6 years coverage and with my two repairs we are at just over $3k of work and i have still havw 5 more years to go. Nice to have a peice of mind
