Default F-type 2021 automatic stop at light and won’t go out of first gear

I need help Jaguar is saying they can’t find anything wrong. I bought an automatic F-type 2021 about 2months ago. Three times I have been driving stop at a light behind to drive and it’s like the transmission is stuck in first. It will not shift to 2nd gear. I have to stop put it in park and turn the car off. Restart and everything is fine. Just normal city driving.
anyone else have this what was done to fix it?

Did you activate manual shifting, via the paddles or the gear selector? I have my paddles set so they’re only active in Sport mode, so I don’t accidentally activate them.

The transmission goes from auto to manual when you hit a paddle. Hold the right paddle for 3+ seconds (I think) to go back to auto.

It will also go from auto to manual if you accidentally or intentionally hit the transmission lever up or back if it's in Sport Mode.

no I checked after the second time it happened to make sure I hadn’t engaged the paddles. I also only had one hand on the wheel at it was the top. No where near the paddles. Thank you for the reply.

Maybe the car has a glitch such that it *thinks* it is sport mode when it isn't?
As DJS said the easiest way to take it out of sport/manual mode is to hold the right hand (upshift) paddle in for a little while, he says three seconds but in my experience it's more like two seconds.
Next time this glitch occurs try doing that, much quicker and easier than turning the car off and restarting it.

I will try this for sure. The dealership has had it for three days and can’t recreate it. I’m glad I came here for advice. Thank you

I believe if the car is in dynamic mode and you move the shift lever to the left, putting it in sport mode, that the transmission goes into manual shift mode...

i honestly never use the manual shift at all. All three if my cars have it and it’s just not my thing.
It did have a red symbol pop up on my dash that I noticed this last time it happened, but my daughter was in the car and I just reacted quick to get it moving again. I couldn’t tell you what it was. I know it wasn’t a battery.

In that case, perhaps an OBDII code was set. If you don't own a scanner, have the code checked at an auto parts store...

Just make sure that you verify that the Hazard triangle goes out after 20 - 30 minutes.

Ok thank you, I just picked it up from Jaguar and they saw no codes for the date and time. I will snap a picture if it happens again. This forum seems to have more info than they did.

That's certainly not the case in my MY!8 - going manual has to be a deliberate act with the paddles or shifter. As noted above, once in Sport you can use the lever as a sequential shifter instead of the paddles. In D if you leave the paddles alone for a specific time (5 or 10 seconds?) it'll automatically go back to auto, in S you have to use the right paddle (or maybe pull the shifter back - I haven't tried that) to reselect auto.

If you haven't already, try this setting DJS is recommending. Make the paddles only active in Sport mode and see if it still does it. If it only does it when the setting is for Sport Mode only AND it is Sport Mode, then it could be a contact switch on one of the paddles which is triggering it.

In mine I can see if it's in manual since it displays the gear number in the dash instead of D or S. Dunno if that applies to the later models.

I thought that the gear # display was only on the center display if you had the gearshift to the left, and the car was in SPORT - DYNAMIC?

It shifts automatically into SECOND at a stop.

You can turn off manual shifting by holding the RH paddle for a few seconds.

Not on mine, but I do allow manual in D as well as S.

In mine it will shift down at all speeds if the speed drops too low for the gear you've manually selected - it's only upshifts that are inhibited.

This has happened to me a few times in both my F Pace and F Type ... and every time it was caused by my sausages brushing the shift paddles. I set the paddles to only be active in SPORT mode and problem solved.

Thank you for the info, because I was wondering how to go from paddle shift to auto again. Mine is adjusted to shift to paddle mode when in auto.

The setting for when the paddles are active is in the menu accessed via the steering wheel buttons.

Thank you,
I have set the paddles to be activated if I use them while in the auto mode. I just didn't know how to go back into auto mode after using the paddles.
Thank you for making this clear to me.
