I would agree there is no defect. But the seats do not move forward and back. I think this is a fairly simple expectation for any consumer even on a lower end car. These seats will only go forward (and up simultaneously) or back (and down simultaneously).
I think the design poor and honestly odd that seats would be designed only to track in a somewhat diagonal fashion. I think Jaguar must have recognized the issue because this is not a feature on the new base models.
They move back and forth manually, pull the lever at the front of the seat base, they slide by hand.
I suspect the complaint is that the manual adjustment simultaneously affects fore/aft as well up/down adjustment. However, it makes sense that if you need the seat back further, you would also need additional headroom.
The OP clearly states in his original posting that his car only has "two controls". So is it just that the OP did not read his owner's manual regarding seat adjustment for the base model? It is on p.20 of my manual (Canadian market): the settings (with illustrations) are listed under "MANUAL SEATS" thus:
"1. Seat angle adjustment" (this refers to the button which electrically controls the seat back angle)
"2. Height adjustment" (this refers to the button which electrically controls the seat bottom)
"3. Forward and rearward adjustment" (this refers to the lever at the bottom of the seat to the right of middle for manual adjustment)
All of these are referenced to drawings of the seat controls.
Relatively few of the cars were sold in base form, so most of the cars had full electric adjustment fore/aft, up/down and angle adjustment for seat back angle and seat base angle. Many had further adjustments: for the lumbar support (in/out, up/down) and bolster adjustment (inflate/deflate) - as shown in the photo from my car.
Perhaps the title of this thread should now be amended to have "SOLVED" after it?

A customer of mine has a 2014 convertible with manual seats, I had to move the seats when I was doing the Surround retrofit on his car.
The forward/back movement when pulling the lever only slides the seat back & forth on the rails, it does not affect the height, the height is only adjusted electrically.
Nothing like familiarising yourself with a vehicle before you drive it, eh?
It seems to be easier to ascribe general poor quality, poor engineering or a paucity of standard equipment to the manufacturer. Reading the owner's manual takes time.

As it turns out, the handle under the seat on the drivers side of my car was missing. I went over to the passenger seat and sure enough there was one there.
I was able to reach the lever on the driver's side and make the fore-aft adjustment. Night is now day. Without the handle, I just didn't know one was there, so many thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction on the fix!
Given I am the second owner of the car, I wonder if the poor guy who owned it before me endured the straight up position the whole time he owned it.
Funny thing is, I bought my F-Type without ever having looked at it let alone driven it or any other F-Type!
The closest I got was a brief sit in one in the local dealer's showroom.
But I did own two previous Jags, an XFS and an XFR, and I did a heap of reading and research (especially on this forum!) before taking the plunge.
By the time I bought mine and got it home I barely had to skim the Owner's Handbook as I already knew pretty much all the basics.

Oh man...that would have fooled most anyone. Glad you figured it out!
They work fine but are way too loud and constantly beep, making them so obnoxious as to be useless. Think house alarm that goes off full blast as soon as you arm it. It works fine, but it sucks. .
just an FYI for people with a similar opinion on the sensors, you can easily adjust the volume of the parking sensors by tuning the radio volume knob when they are active and you hear them beeping. I believe that there’s also a settings menu that lets you change the volume.
