Hope this is true and consumers take to it.

hmmm, I see no evidence in the video in regards to a manual. The only difference this would make for me is when they put one in the V8 and the R at that.

You can't see the evidence, but you can hear it. The upshifts definitely sound like a proper manual to me.

Even if it were only in the base model I'd want it!

The supercharged V6 would be the most fun to drive in a manual. For most mortal drivers it would also be the fastest - just short of triple digit highway pulls.

A manual in a car with too much power makes for an "on or off" kind of clutch with a heavy pedal.

The consumer wants an easy to drive manual; not muscle car kind of clutch.

Yes - exactly. The F Type R would compete with the viper kind of at that point.

Manual R8s are fantastic to drive and have such issue. As for the upshift to sound like a manual, I really don't know. Since I have the high flow cats I shift my car like a manual, off the throttle shift and back on the throttle to hear the over run. You cannot tell whether it is a manual or an automatic shifting.

There is a thread about this in the F-Type subform ==>> https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...esting-124915/

At the very end of the video clip, when the car comes of the track, you can hear it's absolutely a manual transmission, no doubt.

I'm sure an F-Type clutch would be silky smooth and not too heavy. The new Viper's clutch is a dream, even for my wife!

I listened a few times and couldn't quite hear a "shift" unlike what I hear when I use the paddles. It would be a good option but it remains to be seen if they will do it. I would have thought they would put a manual in their F-Type super car which would have tipped the world that it was in the cards but it didn't happen. So time will tell but unless/until Jaguar gets back into racing I think it will be auto-boxes for a long time. Just my 2 cents.

Jaguar would be wise to not to introduce the manual right away. They need to extend the life cycle and product releases in a manner that will keep the consumer base for such cars (not a very large automotive segment) coming back to the dealership. The need continual press from the auto rags and if there's is no new products, there won't be much to review.

Has anyone recently driven a high power manual with a ZF transmission? How was it? I'd assume it would be like something like Audi or BMW is currently using.

The ZF manual boxes are not all that common...

The manual S-Type diesel got the ZF S6-53 six speed, the Land Rover Discovery 3 with the same 2.7L V6 diesel also got this transmission but they are both very rare and not sold in the US. This transmission is only rated to 600Nm, so not tough enough to go behind the supercharged 5.0L

Some low-power BMW's also use the ZF S6-37, which is only rated to 370Nm. Audi does not use ZF manual transmissions as far as I know.

The other 6-speed is the old ZF S6-40 but that was from the 1980's...also not built for big torque.

There is a heavy duty version ZF S6-650 up to 720Nm but that's only been used in Ford F-Trucks and Chevy Sierras...

It would make sense that Jag stick with ZF as they are already a customer for the automatics, but i'm not sure if there is an off-the-shelf ZF 6-speed manual suitable for the power of the 5.0L... which may be one reason why they only will offer it in the V6 models...unless they put the truck version in?

I don't see Jaguar's F-Type target market being interested in a manual. But it'll be interesting to see what they do.

What was the manual transmission in the V10 M5 and M6? The clutch in it was not very friendly. A friend just traded one in on a new '17 Cayman S with PDK.

Not sure, the V10's had a Getrag automatic, but I can't find any info on who makes the manual, I would also guess also Getrag as they did the 6-speed for the E39 M5 amongst other BMW models..
