Question F type coupe r or v6s?!

Hi to all,
I will return my XKR 2012 to the dealer next week but I can't decide on which F type to take. I've driven both of them. The power in the V6S is enough for legal speed limit. I don't do tracks. But I do love the look and the sound of the R. Can F type owners give me some input, experience to help my decision?

Thanks

Ian

I test drove all variations of V6 and V8 and I suspect that after the XKR you would not be completely happy with the performance of the V6s. Sure, they have "enough" power but, there is more to it; at times, it is good to have more than enough :-). If I were you, I'd definitely select the "R".

I have the V6S coupe and I can absolutely guaranty you that the R is piece of sh*t. First of all, everybody on this forum knows that the R's engine will blow up after 3,000 miles, and numerous owners (I think 50% or so) have reported as such so far and the others will report soon. Plus, the R coupe is wayyy uglier than the V6S coupe. Theoretically they're supposed to look exactly the same, but in reality Jaguar uses different sheet metal work for the R and believe me it shows. And the R sounds wayyy worse according to a scientific poll. The R also smells really bad because of a problem at the R assembly line (but not the V6S assembly line).

Now an R owner can chime in and tell me why his car is better than mine, and back and forth.

What's the point of these threads?

It was all in the WSJ.

Apparently the R was just an insider corporate joke at Jaguar, and a way for them to get government grants by providing employment to patients at a mental hospital. Problem is they supposedly took dumps all over the car when assembling it. They're really surprised it's selling! Also ebola.

Given my experience, it all depends upon where you are in your auto-owning evolution. For example, I've grown bored with 500+ HP cars, having owned a fair number, with power that is silly, unusable, and over-the-top on the street, so I went with the base V6. I'm extremely happy with that decision, as it is plenty thrilling to drive as a nearly, daily-driver. The difference in acceleration between the V6 and V8 is a few 10ths of a second up to legal street speeds. If tracking the car was on my list of wants, I probably would have made a different decision.

Moreover, the sound of the V6 is also more appealing to me in the F-Type, perhaps because of the novelty, and it's very exotic sound The loud V8 sound-track is burned into my brain because of my past experiences--been there, done that, and have all the t-shirts and hats.

However, if you've never owned one of those asphalt-rippers, and you're a gear-head, I suppose you have to do it at least once. No one can answer that question except you.

Pay no attention to Lunagry, since he rarely drives his car because it's too pretty, and he apparently doesn't want to mess it up.

I chose the R coupe because I believe it is more beautiful than the converible. Personal opinion as I am sure the convertible owners will respond differently. I also preferred having the extra power and the sound of the exhaust. It really is a matter of personal preference although after driving the V6S and then the R I had to have the R.

Power aside... One is a vert one is not. Pretty hard to compare the two.

I think the coupe period is sexier... But it isn't a convertible and I live in Florida so winter is the best top down time. So it's a no brainer to me.

Would have preferred to have gotten the V8 tho...

I have the F type R and its my third jaguar v-8 and they have been all excellent from a driving perspective and problem free.
The 6 is quite fast and fun to drive, at least according to a 30 minute test drive I took in one, but the R is a whole new ball game. The electronic differential is excellent and the engine is fabulous.
I also do not track anymore, yet the pure exhilaration of the 8 is just too hard to pass up.
Lawrence.

Do you agree with the statement, "you can never have enough power." Answer this and yiu answer your question.

Thank you everyone!

Finally, my wife decides and she wants the F Type R coupe for three seasons drive and the Evoque for winter. I would be happy with the V6S! My wife loves sports cars more than me...

I think it comes down to your wallet and how much you want to pay. I had a $1,500+ car payment on a Porsche I owned a few years back and I really didn't want to be up there in payments again so opted for a well equipped V6S. Very happy with my choice, payment and performance.

Yep. No one else's opinion matters in these decisions. Buy the car which you like best and that you can comfortably afford.
