F-Type differential failures
I was there for that last year, and that's exactly why I bought my F Type last December! Then I went back to it this past February and took a couple hot laps in the F Pace SVR, and bought one in May.
Haha. I have seen a ton of those stories as well....And agree, a fast car and a fool won't last long. Thankfully I reserve my "really" fast driving for the Air Strip shootouts, like Shift Sector, WannGoFast, and No-Fly Zone. Funny thing, is I have all this muscle/performance in my cars and drive exactly 3.2 miles to my office for work, and can rarely get over 45 mph. Kind of ironic.....Still makes me smile to know what they "can" do....And I just enjoy tinkering with them to make them look and perform better(and hopefully no plans to wrap a tree with any).DC
PS...He ended up passing me by the 1/2 mile mark

HaHa! True. It reminds me of one of my favorite professors when I was at LSU....He was an older gentleman and used to refer to us as "you young people".
During one lecture....he paused in the middle and said...."When I was a young man, I spent nearly half my money on wine, women, and song!" then he paused and said....
"the other half....I spent foolishly"
he was a fun professor.

Sounds like the George Best (UK soccer player) quote; "I spent most of my money on booze and women, the rest I wasted".
2017 SVR, catastrophic front diff failure at @11.5K miles (in the middle of a cross country road trip, of course).
Took the car in for fouled o2 sensors today, noticed the front diff appears to be leaking (~13K miles). Yay.

Any chance you know if the leak was happening previously? Usually the leak precedes failure, not after, from what I've read in the thread.
I would imagine any signs of premature wear were missed/ignored by the dealers 'comprehensive pre-purchase inspection'
At any rate, the front diff was replaced in New Mexico, so it was distressing to see issues there again after <2k miles.
I do not, unfortunately. I took delivery of the car in Missouri, with the intention of driving home to California. My first indication something was wrong was a noise under the car in Oklahoma.

Hopefully your local dealer can get you fixed up properly. I would definitely be on the horn with JLR NA asking for an explanation.
I suppose anything is possible, as the repairs were affected some 800 miles away from me. I doubt it though, as the work was delayed almost a week until a new differential was sourced, and I have dealer documentation that the differential was indeed replaced.
If over filled = early seal failure and leaking.
If underfilled = early mechanical failure
If the factory is as careless with fluid levels as they are with fit and finish, I could easily see an abnormal amount of failures.
If the dealers are not careful when replacing the failed diff's then the same result. Possibly these units are very sensitive to fluid levels.
After reading all this about differential problems I took the car to the dealer and the pinion seal is just starting to leak. Thanks to the forum for giving me a heads up on this. 21,000 miles but way out of warranty. Out of pocket should be $1,600+.
I guess I'll be keeping an eye out for this. Last time I checked all was good. A little ''sweat'' from initial installation I suppose but zero leaks or drips.
I recently took my F-Type S RWD in to a Toyota dealer for annual state safety inspection (no Jag dealer in my site). Knowing the Toyota mechanic from previous Toyota experiences, he was kind snuff to inform me the diff pinion seal was leaking. I waited a bit before I started seeing diff fluid on the garage floor. At that point I took it into the Jag dealer and had the seal replaced. I'm hoping that nothing untoward will occur to my LSD.
The differentials on my 2016 V6S convertible A-T AWD have been fine as far as I know (as far as I know being the key issue). Any advice on best strategies to check the seals on both front and rear? I want to do it as the warranty has ~6 months left. I have replaced the air filters so I know what fun it is to take off the lower engine cover. I would like to avoid removing the covers if possible but if I need to I'll manage. Thanks!
